We have a position available for a Process Development Senior Associate to join our Rhode Island Site; this is a laboratory-based role. The Process Development organization at Amgen develops, characterizes and leads the commercialization of the drug substance manufacturing processes for all late-stage and commercial programs across the Amgen portfolio. This role provides opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through partnership with colleagues in the wider Process Development, Manufacturing, and Quality organizations. Further, the Process Development Sr. Associate will be immersed in all aspects of a world-class commercial bulk drug facility.
Apply fundamental scientific principles of cell culture and purification to execute small-scale experiments supporting the development, characterization, scale-up and optimization of commercial programs.
Utilize problem-solving skills to rapidly find solutions to process challenges.
Provide first principles approach and technology driven ideas to experimental designs through engagement and collaboration with a team of scientists.
Demonstrate the desire to develop technical skills and scientific knowledge in both cell culture and purification, thereby further contributing to the coordinated group.
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of scientific experience
Preferred Qualifications (Senior Associate)
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Life Sciences, or other relevant sciences
Upstream and downstream problem-solving experience in both a process development and commercial manufacturing support environment
Understanding and hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and protein chromatography
Excellent sterile technique in the BSC as well as in closed operation transfers.
Experience using and troubleshooting small-scale bioreactors, shake flask passaging, sampling and analysis, and downstream operations using AKTA and tecan.
Excellent verbal communication and scientific writing skills
Proven success working with a diverse team in a dynamic, multi-functional environment
Familiarity with design of experiments and statistical analysis of data
