Amgen Director Manufacturing - Purification in West Greenwich, Rhode Island
We are looking for a Director Manufacturing to lead the Purification operations in our existing plant and to help identify and address unrealized opportunities for reliability, efficiency, agility and differentiation.
This highly visible and influential position reports directly into the Executive Director and Plant Manager, is a key member of the manufacturing leadership team and will interact closely with leaders from other functions and sites.
Responsible to apply sound judgment and decision making to direct approximately 120 staff to ensure goals are met and will represent the manufacturing organization on projects, task forces, site and network teams.
Ensures safe and compliant cGMP operations
Establishes sound plans the enable Amgen’s operational and strategic imperatives
Manages and coordinates resources and personnel to ensure product quality standards and supply plans are met within planned budget
Contributes to the business results through quality of decisions, results and advice
Sets challenging performance expectations and provides timely feedback
Develops and implements metrics to track and manage successful, timely accomplishment of assigned goals, objectives and projects
Delivers strong results consistent with compliance requirements and Amgen values
Responsible for conducting all production related investigations, ensuring consistency and compliance with external regulatory requirements
Prepares and maintains department budget and workforce model
Champions innovation and continuous improvement
Executes with a sense of urgency and purpose and drives course correction where appropriate
Anticipates and adapts to environmental factors
Analyzes and forecasts business trends
Creates compelling strategies the help delivering the company’s aspiration

May represent department to regulatory authorities
Doctorate degree and 4 years of Manufacturing & Operations experience
Master’s degree and 8 years of Manufacturing & Operations experience
Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of Manufacturing & Operations experience
4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Demonstrated managerial experience in a GMP manufacturing plant, preferably a drug substance plant and mammalian cell culture purification.
Demonstrated experience in applying Operational Excellence and Lean Manufacturing
Cross-functional work experience in either Process Development, Quality or Engineering
Excellent communication skills, drive, sense of urgency, energy level and problem-solving abilities
Demonstrated ability to forge and maintain strong relationships with other functional areas
Experience in matrixed, cross-site or global network environments
Ability to effectively develop and coach staff and positively advance the culture of an organization
