Oncology Strategy Director
What you will do
Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role Amgen is seeking an Oncology Strategy Director who will report to the Oncology Strategy Executive Director and will be based on our main corporate campus in Thousand Oaks, CA or remote.
The Director’s primary role will be to lead strategic initiatives that shape Amgen’s Oncology Therapeutic Area future, with a focus on topics in the R&D space. Projects will be commissioned by Development leadership and will often require independent leadership of a cross-functional team, often via influencing.
The Director should have deep management consulting experience, extending into external landscaping, preclinical deep dives, and cross-functional business case development. They should be comfortable with portfolio analytics, executive presentations, and workshop facilitation/synthesis. Prior above-asset experience is needed and demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, including stakeholders both inside and outside R&D verticals. The Director will need to be comfortable with ambiguity and ad hoc projects/requests. The role will require a strong scientific background with direct oncology knowledge.
Examples of potential assignments include: the annual oncology therapeutic area strategy; technology deep dives; product strategy support, and cross-portfolio analytics and/or risk management.
Secondary responsibilities of the Director include support of Amgen’s external Amgen Partners of Choice academic collaborations scientific exchange and projects. The Director will act need to manage global external communications and act as a trusted representative for the organization to the external scientific community.
While the Strategy Director role can be located remotely there is an expectation that availability at times of high activity may need to accommodate some Pacific Time Zone working hours.
What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 4 years of healthcare business experience
Or
Master’s degree and 7years of healthcare business experience
Or
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of healthcare business experience
Four (4) or more years of management consulting, finance, corporate strategy, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
MD, MBA, MS, Ph.D. or equivalent
Eight (8) or more years of strategy experience within management consulting, finance, or corporate strategy functions
Robust knowledge of biopharma industry (i.e., pharma development, translational sciences, R&D processes)
Understanding of interplay among various stakeholders in the industry, awareness of trends and recent developments, and ability to research / learn/ synthesize findings on new topics
Oncology R&D experience in the biopharmaceutical industry (biotech, pharmaceutical company)
Excellent cross-functional communication skills and a decisive yet affiliative leadership style to drive results while maintaining relationships
Ability to communicate effectively on a prepared and ad-hoc basis to support senior leadership.
Proven experience as a member and leader of a high performing team

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
