Amgen External Engagement Manager in Tokyo, Japan


Support creation of optimal access environment for AABP products by engaging political, government and industry policy-shapers and promoting government engagement in Advocacy-initiated public-private partnerships and initiatives.


*Relationship Building and Intelligence Gathering

  • Identify and develop a network of relationships with key Diet, government and other policy-shapers

  • Monitor access, payer and healthcare policy/legislative trends and provide timely in-depth analyze, including assessment of potential business impact, to internal stakeholders

  • Brief Global/regional colleagues on current political and policy trends in Japan

  • Provide assessment of access policy environment to New Product Development Leads for pipeline evaluation

*Industry Engagement and Policy Shaping

  • Actively participate in government affairs-related industry committees

  • Support GM and VAP Director to develop policy recommendations and engagement strategy

  • Support development and execution of brand-specific access-related deliverables

  • Provide Japan input and support for Global and regional policy initiatives

*Government Engagement in Advocacy-initiated Partnerships and Initiatives

  • Support Advocacy function in strategy development and implementation by identifying opportunities for engagement with government agencies and officials

  • Identify, develop and maintain relationships with central, prefectural and local government agencies and officials in support of Advocacy strategies

  • Monitor external environment to identify opportunities to establish Value-Based Partnerships with central, prefectural and local government agencies

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience

*At least 5-years of experience working in healthcare policy for government, business, NPO, and/or trade associations

*Strong knowledge of healthcare policy formulation process in Japan.

*Strong understanding of the legal and regulatory environment

*Demonstrated experience working in diverse cross-functional teams

*Strong people skills

*Strategic thinking ability

*Good oral and written communication skills

*Native Japanese and business-level English language skills
