Amgen Sr Scientist - Neuroscience Therapeutic Area in Thousand Oaks, California
We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join a vibrant and growing group currently focusing on developing new and effective therapeutics for Analgesia and Neurodegenerative diseases within the Neuroscience Therapeutic Area, a key component of the Discovery Research unit at Amgen's headquarter, Thousand Oaks, California (ATO).
The successful candidate must be a highly motivated and skilled scientist with in-depth knowledge of the cellular, molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying Pain transmission/pathways and cutting-edge approaches for identifying new analgesics.
Lead team of Scientists and Associates tasked with identifying, validating and implementing drug discovery workstreams to prosecute pain drug targets
Lead cross-functional teams that develop innovative strategies for generating new and effective analgesics
Evaluate in-licensing opportunities and identify external collaborations
Critically analyze and interpret data, define realistic timelines for studies and meet delivery deadlines
Work closely with and communicate results to multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams
Present strategies and results to Neuroscience Senior staff
Execute high impact studies within an extremely fast-paced and collaborative environment
Doctorate degree and 2 years of scientific experience
Master's degree and 5 years of scientific experience
Bachelor's degree and 7 years of scientific experience
Deep expertise in neuroscience drug discovery, cell biology and/or genetics underlying pain transmission/pathways, pharmacology, and knowledge of the analgesic drug discovery/development space
Previous experience in one or more of the following areas: in vitro/ex vivo model systems for pain, novel approaches to identify new pain targets, human genetics, neural circuit function and dysfunction, in the context of developing new and effective analgesics, with an emphasis on breakthrough innovation and leveraging human genetic validation data
Established scientific reputation in neuroscience and neuropathic/chronic pain research, in particular, as evidenced by an outstanding publication track record
Experience working in a cross-functional, matrixed, and global Research and Translational organization
Demonstrated ability to recruit, lead and motivate a team of scientists, and to be actively engaged in their career development
