Amgen Sr Engineer- Utility/Faciities in Thousand Oaks, California

Job Summary

This position will be based at the Amgen Rhode Island Facility (ARI) or Amgen Thousand Oaks Facility (ATO). It will report into the Engineering Technical Authority, which is part of the Corporate Engineering department. Functional responsibilities include:

  • Identification of energy reduction opportunities, utility functional performance monitoring, KPI development and benchmarking, as well as identification of innovative technologies to optimize operations.

  • Work with the site teams to identify desirable system improvement / optimization initiatives; and provide structure in the assessment of cost effectiveness, technical feasibility, and lifecycle impact in the areas of general utilities, clean utilities, HVAC, and general facility design.

  • Determine optimum funding opportunities, coordinate energy retrofit projects and energy audits, including a re-commissioning/monitoring-based commissioning process for site facilities. Experience with Structured Measurement & Verification (M&V) such as IPMVP is desirable. Working knowledge of project financial justifications required to prioritize opportunities.

  • Facility design and renovation is also an important aspect of the position. The position provides technical guidance to project teams renovating spaces or constructing new facilities, and incorporates appropriate outside advice regarding safety procedures and compliance with applicable codes.

  • Management - Capable of leading a technical authority network. Makes use of expertise at the site and corporate levels for solving problems and leveraging solutions across all sites. Identify and resolve issues and conflicts. Provide for mentoring of other Amgen members of their technical authority network at the site level. Remain current on state-of-the-art for systems, and for the appropriate adoption and use of new techniques and technology within Amgen.

  • Represent Amgen with outside firms, technical societies, standards organizations and regulatory bodies.

  • This position will also participate on applicable technical networks.

Responsibilities also include support for the Sustainability Engineer, including support for commercial site utility consumption activities as required. Review of applicable plant design documentation (Utilities, HVAC, Gas Systems) as applicable to ensure optimum efficiency is also a critical requirement of this position. Technical review of facility related improvement projects, including construction estimates, to ensure compliance with applicable codes and requirements.

Ability to travel (domestic & international) up to 30% including overnight stays.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 3 years of engineering experience in a GMP Manufacturing Environment

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of engineering experience in a GMP Manufacturing Environment

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of engineering experience in a GMP Manufacturing Environment

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of engineering experience in a GMP Manufacturing Environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

Minimum 7 years functional engineering experience in a cGMP manufacturing environment

Knowledge of utility system operations, including critical utility monitoring requirements

Minimum 7 years' experience with a team or network with cross-site or cross-functional activities

Minimum 7 years' experience working within financial systems with regard to project financial analysis

Experienced in facility management

Project management experience

Knowledge of building and fire codes

Strong analytical and quantitative skills

Ability to multi-task

Strong communication, technical writing, relationship building, leadership and mentoring skills

Effective change agent

Independent, self-motivated, organized, able to multi-task

Ability to operate effectively in a cross-functional environment while managing competing priorities for multiple clients
