Sr. Associate Scientist, Next Generation Sequencing
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will be responsible for wet lab NGS experiments to advance programs in the large molecule portfolio and to support display-based protein engineering campaigns. Additionally, as a Sr. Associate Scientist , you will contribute to the development of innovative NGS workflows to support a high-throughput, automated synthetic biology pipeline in Therapeutic Discovery.
Biologics Optimization is seeking a highly motivated Sr. Associate Scientist to join our team in Thousand Oaks, CA. We are a multidisciplinary group in Research with capabilities in protein engineering, cloning, expression, purification, and analysis of therapeutic proteins. Biologics Optimization is responsible for the engineering, production, assessment, and final selection of large molecule drug candidates that advance to Process Development.
Develop and optimize NGS sequencing and library preparation workflows, primarily for short-read sequencing on Illumina instruments (e.g., MiSeq)
Make NGS libraries; run and maintain sequencers
Communicate with partner groups to coordinate and track NGS sequencing requests
Design and implement high throughput workflows using automated equipment
Provide scientific results that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions, and participate in internal and external scientific meetings.

Master’s degree and 3 years of experience
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience
Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology
Hands-on experience in NGS library construction
The ability to independently troubleshoot experiments and build new assays and workflows
Hands-on experience in library construction of Amplicon-Seq and/or operation of Illumina NGS instruments
Experience in processing and handling large data sets; Linux and/or scripting or coding skills a major plus
Familiarity with automated liquid handlers such as Tecan or LabCyte Echo systems
Experience with display technologies for protein engineering
