Amgen Specialist Software Engineer in Thousand Oaks, California
Amgen is seeking a Specialist Software Engineer to join the multi-site Research & Development Informatics organization at its Thousand Oaks, California campus. The Specialist Software Engineer will report to the Senior Manager, Research Informatics supporting Clinical Biomarker Discovery, PKDM, and Clinical Pharmacology Modeling and Simulation groups.
The Research Informatics team supports Discovery Research and Translational Research organizations globally with innovative IS and Data Science solutions to accelerate and grow Amgen's pipeline of biopharmaceuticals. The Specialist Software Engineer will directly assist Amgen's scientists to develop and progress vitally important therapeutic candidates at the forefront of addressing grievous illnesses including cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Helps shape the Research Informatics technology portfolio through software engineering contributions and the implementation of IS solutions for research that will aid in uncovering new and deeper insights for the discovery of novel therapeutics
Works directly with Amgen scientists to understand needs and develop innovative solutions
Develops new applications, integrations, and services
Develops functionality and makes additional code changes based on specifications
Profiles, measures, and reduces latency on applications
Reviews functional and technical designs to identify areas of risk and/or missing requirements
Provides technology planning, engineering, architecture, protocol analysis, and development of technical standards and interface applications
Provides technical write-ups and drawings as needed to promote the proposed solutions
Reviews the Sprint tasks with Amgen team, manage sprint scope, commit to completing sprint tasks, and deliver on those commitments
Collaborates with the other engineering team members to ensure all services are reliable, maintainable, and well-integrated into existing platforms
Adheres to best practices for testing and designing reusable code
Master's degree and 2 years of Information Systems and/or Computer Science experience
Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Information Systems and/or Computer Science experience
Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems and/or Computer Science experience
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems and/or Computer Science experience
Java, .NET, Python, R, and/or Ruby expertise
Experience in developing and supporting web applications including familiarity with web technologies and frameworks (e.g. Node.js)
Experience working in Cloud (AWS) environments
Experience working with container technologies (e.g., Docker) and developing microservices
Relevant experience in Enterprise Software Architecture, including data architecture and modeling using relational databases running SQL (AWS RDS Oracle) and non-SQL stores (e.g., S3, graph databases, RDF store)
Service Oriented Architecture (REST/JSON, SOAP/XML, etc.)
Experience working with agile methodology & DevOps frameworks (e.g., Jenkins, Maven, Git) with successful experience working in a collaborative team environment
Ability to troubleshoot across layers of the technology stack
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong ability to work in teams
