Amgen Senior Project Manager - US Commercialization and Research and Development Compliance in Thousand Oaks, California

The Senior Project Manager (SPM), based out of our global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA supports Commercialization and Research & Development (R&D) Compliance. The SPM will be report into the Executive Director Regional Program Management.

The Senior Project Manager drives the development and manages the execution of high quality, regional, integrated cross-functional project plans in support of the overall program strategy for assigned teams / sub-teams. Additionally, the Incumbent applies project management best practices in the development, initiation, planning, execution, control and closing of projects.

The Senior Project Manager is specifically responsible for:

  • Partners with the US brand lead for US biosimilar team(s) through the US XF Commercial / RAV biosimilar teams

  • Provides program management to US commercial and RAV team

  • Develops and executes a fully informed US (launch) plan aligned with Global and US Medical enabling a successful US launch​​

  • Collaborates with filgrastim commercial / RAV team in preparation of anticipated competitive biosimilar launches in US

  • Drives decision making according to Amgen's decision-making framework (DAI) and identifies project issues or resource gaps and facilitating resolution

  • Leads risk and issue identification and mitigation for key risks and issues

  • Identifies key deliverables for each function and their inter-dependencies and ensures cross-functional alignment and accountability

  • Monitors and communicates progress and adherence to timelines

  • Supports brand lead in coordination of providing input into program Global Product Strategy (GPS) and support commercial and RAV leads in aligning the US Local Product Strategy (LPS) with the GPS

  • Partners with US leads (Medical, Marketing, RAV) for US brand activities

  • Supports XF team deliverables and commercial/RAV team deliverables

  • Facilitates resource planning, financial and capacity assessments as needed

  • Conducts the risk management and scenario planning according to DAI; drives the development of contingency and/or risk mitigation plans

  • Manages the effectiveness of the US teams by documenting issues, decisions and action items of cross-functional US product teams and functional sub-teams, as well as ad hoc project team meetings

  • Escalates cross-functional project issues to GPM or cross-functional sub-team leader, as appropriate

  • Implements decisions from governance / review boards, Product Team and/or local/regional function Heads

  • Coordinates activities with external business partners and alliances, where applicable; contributes to partnership contract deliverables

  • Partners with Program Management Lead/ Work Package Lead to develop Review Board and/or Regional Review deliverables and creating management reports, as needed

  • Drives the communication plans for cross-functional US teams by serving as a single point of contact for managing cross-functional US team information (content and quality)

  • Provides cross-functional project information to PML/Work Package Lead for incorporation into commercialization deliverables and program timelines

  • Provides cross-functional project information at functional sub-team meetings and to other stakeholders, as appropriate

  • Managing US team communication across functions and regions by leading and/or participating in special department, cross-functional, or team projects

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Project Management experience


Master's degree and 4 years of Project Management experience


Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Project Management experience


Associate's degree and 10 years of Project Management experience


High School diploma / GED and 12 years of Project Management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or strong demonstration of equivalent combination of relevant educational and professional training experience in leading cross-functional teams

  • 8+ years' industry experience in the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, or other Healthcare-related field

  • 4+ years' experience in a drug development Project Management role

  • Drug Development knowledge with basic to strong understanding of other functions relevant to the position which may include: Research, Preclinical, Clinical, Manufacturing, Commercial and Regulatory

  • Proven record of implementing Project Management tools, methodologies, practices and infrastructure, as related to the Biopharmaceutical Industry

  • Informed with current biopharmaceutical industry knowledge, news and trends and ability to apply to programs

  • Independent, motivated, team member with experience in a matrix environment

  • Utilization of Project Management tools, methodologies, practices and infrastructure, as related to the Biopharmaceutical Industry
