What you will do

In this role, you will report to the Director of the Inflammation Portfolio in Corporate Affairs, leading communications for Amgen’s single largest therapeutic area. Inflammation encompasses first-in-class medicines, innovative pipeline assets and biosimilars breaking new ground in access and affordability. The ideal candidate possesses a strong blend of strategic thinking, strong writing, tactical wizardry and collaborative skills.
This position can sit remotely, with occasional travel to Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as lead communicator for one or more Inflammation products/pipeline assets, supporting brand and Corporate Affairs objectives.
Deliver insights-based, high-impact plans that communicate, engage and amplify our brand and disease-state stories across channels and platforms to reach key stakeholders.
Develop an impactful social media strategy and a compelling narrative to bring to life our medicines with clear messages and proof points.
Effectively develop and creatively use internal and external communications channels, including traditional and social media, working with Amgen’s Enterprise teams (e.g. Internal Communications, Media Relations, Social Media and Content teams) as appropriate.
Support issues preparedness. Identify emerging issues and develop mitigation plans, including scenario planning, timely internal stakeholder alignment, training for key internal stakeholders and issues supervising.
Work closely with Legal, Regulatory, Medical and other key internal stakeholders on the review and approval of multiple materials/assets.
Counsel brand leaders on communications strategy and execution; secure agreement for ideas and programming.
Effectively deploy agency support through clear objectives, KPIs, continued drive for excellence and innovation.
Primary focus is on US market (80-100% depending on product and timing).

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 2 years of Public Relations and/or Journalism and/or Corporate Communications and/or Medical Communications experience
Or
Master’s degree and 4 years of Public Relations and/or Journalism and/or Corporate Communications and/or Medical Communications experience
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of Public Relations and/or Journalism and/or Corporate Communications and/or Medical Communications experience
Or
Associate degree and 10 years of Public Relations and/or Journalism and/or Corporate Communications and/or Medical Communications experience
Or
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Public Relations Journalism and/or Corporate Communications and/or Medical Communications experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Biotech/pharma communications experience for marketed products and late-stage pipeline products
6+ years’ experience working in-house for a multinational company or within a public relations agency serving multinationals
Solid understanding of data and regulatory milestones
Experience in crafting consumer- and HCP-facing campaigns supporting brand strategic objectives; ability to apply patient journey and other audience insights to develop programming effecting behavior change
Ability to combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery
Experience in crafting and translating scientific / technical content for a broad range of audiences
Strong oral and presentation skills; ability to negotiate and persuade
Outstanding writing skills and proven media relations and digital communications skills
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and deal with rapidly changing priorities
Ability to interact with all levels of management and manage vendors
Excellent interpersonal skills; hardworking team player and self-starter
Serious dedication to hard work and excellence
Ability to efficiently navigate a challenging, matrixed and dynamic environment
Independently judges risks and benefits from a communication perspective and makes a persuasive case for taking calculated risks in the organization’s best interest
Shows organizational courage by tactfully challenging executives when providing communications counsel and feedback

The annual salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $134,365 – $161,464.
