Amgen Senior Associate IS Business Analyst - Operations IS (OIS) Supply Chain Analytics in Thousand Oaks, California

Amgen is seeking a Senior Associate IS (Information Systems) Business Analyst - Operations IS (OIS) Supply Chain Analytics on our IS Operations team, to be based in our global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Senior Associate will report to Director of IS Operations and will primarily be responsible for supporting the Global Supply Chain business organization.

The Senior Associate will contribute to the success of Operations IS functions by making fundamental improvements in how information is managed, business processes are operated, physical processes are controlled, and work flow is directed to efficiently achieve the integration and orchestration of all activities required for supply chain management. The Incumbent will attend strategic cross-functional meetings to facilitate the optimization of processes through implementation of solutions that enable enterprise-wide information knowledge management.

Responsibilities of the Senior Associate include:

  • Ensures IS representation within assigned Supply Chain functions to develop, support and maintain business and IS strategy for analytics

  • Coordinates project activities for assigned Supply Chain functions to design, source and implement new business capabilities around information management as necessary to deliver the strategic plan

  • Works across business organizations to create and maintain an integrated approach to supply chain, manufacturing, and quality, serving as a domain expert in analytics solutions

  • Provides guidance to project teams on defining business needs, articulating solutions and approaches for addressing business needs, and presenting business cases for proposed solutions

  • Supports robust IS solutions to leverage use of data by the business

  • Helps drive the design and implementation for supported applications for use by the business

  • Works with architects and designers to design integrated solutions - e.g. data flows - and with project teams to ensure all business and technical requirements, migrations and standards are clearly understood and implemented

  • Supports the development of an enterprise-wide content analytics capability that supports feed forward and feedback of actionable information across the entire supply chain

  • Supports project management throughout IS initiatives and reviews project deliverables throughout development to ensure quality and traceability to requirements and adherence to all quality management plans and standards.

  • Participates in quality management reviews and assists in determining the cross-application technology standards, data distribution standards, and IS architecture strategies

  • Produces IS project deliverables including business process design, business requirements, use cases, and validation documentation

  • Supports application development and test teams

  • Expected travel will be mostly domestic (minimal international) 5-10% of the time

Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree


Bachelor's degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience


Associate's degree and 6 years of Information Systems experience


High school diploma / GED and 8 years of Information Systems experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of data sets and their relationships generated as part of supply chain

  • Ability to apply advanced data visualization techniques using tools such as Spotfire, Tableau

  • Exposure to data sciences and modeling (for e.g. predictive techniques) for Supply Chain data

  • Familiarity with information sharing, content management and analytics practices in the biotechnology industry

  • Good overall understanding of business, ERP, and planning systems common in the biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry (specifically Supply Chain), as well as the integration of these systems through applicable standards

  • Understanding of FDA regulations governing computer system validation and operation

  • Ability to translate the enterprise's aspirations for information sharing into the reality of detailed actions in the supply chain, quality, and IS organizations, including an understanding of data modeling, data quality, data management strategy to support business needs, data access methods, and approaches and experience in data access systems for use in the pharmaceutical industry

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to set the context and present on complex subjects to senior management in a clear and concise manner

  • Ability to drive and facilitate discussions between multiple stakeholders in meeting or workshop settings

  • Experience with Agile / Iterative Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
