Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. We are Protein Engineering and Optimization at Amgen. We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist with expertise in automation of molecular biology and/or NGS to join our team in Thousand Oaks, CA. We are a multidisciplinary group in Research with capabilities in protein engineering, cloning, NGS, expression, purification, and analysis of therapeutic proteins, and we are responsible for the engineering, production, assessment, and final selection of large molecule drug candidates that advance to Process Development.

You are a creative Molecular Biologist with a passion for robotics and automation, determined to push the frontier of molecular & synthetic biology to support therapeutic innovation in the service of patients.

At Amgen, you will:

  • Employ robotics and automation to innovate novel approaches to increase throughput for our large molecule portfolio.

  • Develop and support high-throughput miniaturized synthetic biology pipelines within Therapeutic Discovery.

  • Oversee the daily operations of an NGS core supporting teams engaged in protein engineering and recombinant protein production for large molecule therapeutic discovery

  • Provide scientific ideas and results that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions, and participate in internal and external scientific meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support high throughput, miniaturized synthetic biology pipelines within Therapeutic Discovery.

  • Innovate novel approaches to increase throughput for our large molecule portfolio through robotics and automation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree OR

  • Master’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience OR

  • Bachelor's degree and 6 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Robotic Liquid handling (TECAN, Acoustic liquid handlers) and worklist scripting

  • Use of robotics and automation to facilities experiments at scale

  • A working understanding of Molecular Biology techniques related to DNA cloning and Next-Generation Sequencing

  • Managing the operations of a core facility or dedicated function

  • Efficient, timely and clear communication to enable working in teams

  • Preparing manuscripts for publication
