Amgen’s Attribute Sciences (AS) department within the Process Development (PD) organization defines the favorable quality characteristics of the therapies it produces and optimizes state-of-the-art analytical tools to guide that development. The Pivotal PD organizations focus is developing and commercializing robust manufacturing processes across a wide range of therapeutic modalities, including (but not limited to) synthetic medicines, monoclonal and bispecific antibodies, bispecific T-cell engagers (“BiTEs”), and live oncolytic viruses. Located at our Thousand Oaks, CA office the PD Scientist will be responsible for the analytical development for therapeutic proteins in the pivotal and commercial stages.
Key responsibilities:
Support drug substance and drug product process development, collect analytical data and participate in technology transfer activities
Develop the LC-MS based Multi-Attribute Method (MAM) for late stage and commercial molecules
Validate and transfer MAM to QC network
Communicate (verbal and in written) scientific concepts and results
Work collaboratively with other scientists on multidisciplinary teams
Work independently in advancing projects and studies within required deadlines.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree by time of hired date OR
Master’s degree and 4 years of analytical chemistry, biochemistry experience OR
Bachelor's degree and 6 years in analytical chemistry, biochemistry experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D in Analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering or other life science area with extensive mass spectrometry training
Strong lab skills to design and implement scientific experiments, interpretation of complex data and deliver results
Strong background on LC-MS analysis of product quality attributes associated with therapeutic proteins (such as glycosylation, deamidation, oxidation, partial reduction etc.)
Strong expertise in analytical method development, qualification, and troubleshooting HPLC/UPLC and mass spectrometers
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to multitask, effectively plan and follow through on complex projects
Strong problem solving and effective multi-functional interpersonal skills
