The Sales Force Size and Structure (SFSS) Lead establishes the vision, strategy and execution of best-in-class solutions for the sizing and structure of Amgen’s US sales force and will help drive innovative approaches for evaluating and implementing sale force effectiveness measurement capabilities across the portfolio. As a key member of the Field Excellence leadership team, this position champions insights-driven strategy, objective, evidence-based decision making, and continuous innovation.
He or she is a key strategic partner to Sales and Brand leadership, designing and executing sales force designs to meet Amgen strategic priorities while managing a team dedicated to each therapeutic area to support the portfolio. This position will also be responsible for helping with the development of new capabilities related to sales effectiveness measurement and reporting.
The SFSS Lead reports to the Lead of US Field Excellence Team.
Sales Force Size, Structure and Deployment Strategy and Execution across the Amgen US portfolio
Drive collaboration between Brand Teams, Sales Leadership and Finance to develop the future sales deployment strategy
Engage with the Operations team to plan out timelines and operationalize all the Sales Force deployment workstreams
Identify new and creative ways to accurately and speedily measure sales force effectiveness and integrate insights into cross-functional execution plans
Oversee a team of business unit leads driving therapeutic area specific analytics and strategic planning
Limited Travel Required
Doctorate degree and 4 years of consulting, marketing analytics, sales analytics, sales force design, and/or promotion response modeling experience
Master’s degree and 8 years of consulting, marketing analytics, sales analytics, sales force design, and/or promotion response modeling experience
Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of consulting, marketing analytics, sales analytics, sales force design, and/or promotion response modeling experience
4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, statistics, social / behavioral sciences, engineering, or related field of study
10+ years of experience, including consulting, marketing analytics, sales analytics, sales force design, promotion response modeling
5+ years of experience managing direct reports
Executive presence: can quickly establish credibility with and influence ED/VP level staff
Excellent oral, written and presentation skills with ability to explain complex concepts and controversial findings clearly to a variety of audiences, including senior management
Ability to establish a strong point of view on Amgen portfolio-wide investment decisions
Strong leadership with a demonstrated ability to build and develop high performing teams, deliver results, and shape the future
Strong technical skills: familiarity with various data sets, methodologies and advanced analytical techniques
Demonstrated ability to identify and implement new innovative methodologies and data sources to enhance Amgen analytics capabilities
Skill in handling multiple responsibilities, priorities, tasks and projects simultaneously
Strong Business Acumen: understands both the markets, brands and broader context (internal and external) of the business – can translate analytics insights and findings into realistic, actionable recommendations
Strong knowledge of secondary data sources including syndicated sales, promotional & marketing data, longitudinal patient level data; experience with payer data
Experience with latest technologies to measure sales and marketing effectiveness in a more agile way by dynamically linking to execution
Considerable experience and expertise with statistical modeling, analysis and presentation of results to a non-technical audience
Considerable experience with Sales Force Size and Structure analytics
Experience managing outside vendors
