Amgen is seeking a Research Project Manager to work out of one of the following Amgen locations: Thousand Oaks CA, San Francisco, CA or Cambridge, MA.
Reporting into the Discovery Research Operations team, the Research Project Manager will be responsible for providing project management support to the Discovery pipeline projects. This is a highly visible position that will involve working with the pipeline project teams to drive projects quickly and efficiently to identification of the clinical candidate.
Responsibilities for the Research Project Manager include:
Provides project management to Discovery project teams primarily from hit identification to clinical candidate nomination.
Works with project teams to charter team and develop core documents.
Drives teams to create fit-for-purpose project plans with a priority on achieving timely deliverables.
Develops and manages project timelines and monitors team adherence to project plan.
Accountable for ensuring project plans/timelines are entered and updated in the enterprise system.
Helps resolve cross-functional issues and roadblocks for the Project Team Lead and team in navigating across Amgen.
Supports core team meeting including capturing action items/decisions and tracking completion of action items.
Provides the team with general guidance on advancing projects through the Discovery and Early Development phases.
Identifies resource gaps and works with team to resolve.
Drives best practices across teams and develops and implements tools for project teams.

Master's degree and 3 years of pharmaceutical or biotech experience
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of pharmaceutical or biotech experience
Associate's degree and 10 years of pharmaceutical or biotech experience
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of pharmaceutical or biotech experience
Proven project manager who has experience leading cross-functional, complex programs and has a record of implementing project management tools, methodologies, practices and infrastructure, as related to the Biopharmaceutical Industry
Strong scientific expertise with an advanced degree in Organic Chemistry or Biological Sciences
Ability to work in a team/matrix environment, to collaborate and coordinate with internal and external department staff at various levels, to influence others effectively and to handle multiple responsibilities, tasks and projects simultaneously
Quick learner who is proactive and takes initiative and has excellent communication and people skills.
