Amgen Project Manager in Thousand Oaks, California

Amgen is seeking a Project Manager to join our Business Performance & Innovation group. This position will be located in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and implement solutions to complex organizational challenges within GRAAS, manage large-scale changes that impact GRAAS, maintain the operational processes necessary to manage GRAAS effectively, and provide strategic support to the leadership of GRAAS

  • Interact with all levels of the organization to provide project leadership for cross-functional, GRAAS, process improvement or problem-solving projects and initiatives

  • Provide traditional project management support with an emphasis on proactive communication and problem solving

  • Effectively drives project teams throughout the life cycle of the project

Key Activities

  • Leads single function or simple, cross-functional project teams to deliver results and attain departmental goals/targets

  • Deliver project goals on budget and on schedule

  • Develop, evaluate, and manage business case and cost/benefit analysis

  • Develop and use project plans to coordinate and report progress

  • Communicate proactively with stakeholders and sponsors regarding project progress, issues, and plans for resolution

  • Prioritize workload in accordance with business goals

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong communication skills

  • Fundamental project management skills

  • Good analytical problem-solving skills

  • Team player and self-starter who is capable of growth and increased responsibility

  • Proficiency in MS office suite including Excel, Power Point, and Project

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree


Master’s degree and 3 years’ experience in pharma industry engineering, life or physical sciences


Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience in pharma industry engineering, life or physical sciences


Associates degree and 10 years’ experience in pharma industry engineering, life or physical sciences


High school diploma / GED and 12 years’ experience in pharma industry engineering, life or physical sciences

Skills and experience to include: -5+ years in project management or related functional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in science, engineering or business (MBA)

  • Certified or experienced in process improvement methodologies such as Lean/Six Sigma

  • Experience on large cross-functional teams

  • Ability to communicate and present ideas to all levels of staff and management

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
