Principal Scientist –Discovery Attribute Sciences
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will be a aprt of the Discovery Attribute Sciences group providing scientific and technical expertise to support early discovery research through to later stage molecule optimization and late-stage selection of Amgen’s pipeline of drug candidates. This position is an exciting opportunity to unlock the potential of biology for patients suffering from serious illnesses by discovering, developing, manufacturing and delivering innovative human therapeutics.
Identifying and characterizing attributes of therapeutic protein candidates utilizing multiple analytical techniques.
Develop and apply novel sample preparation and analytical methods for analysis of therapeutic proteins and synthetic molecules with emphasis on mass spectrometry (LC-MS, LC-MS/MS and MALDI-MS), capillary electrophoresis (and CE-MS), cation exchange (and CEX-MS), size exclusion chromatography (and SEC-MS) and other biophysical techniques such as calorimetry and rheology.
Experience with LC-MS/MS to map and characterize post translational modifications such as deamidation, isomerization and oxidation would be advantageous.
Investigation, development and the application of miniaturized and high throughput mass spectrometric methods is expected.
This role will also involve supervising and mentoring a small group of MS-focused scientists. Importantly, the expectation for this role is also to be 75% laboratory based, providing support for multiple projects and their advancement and also be able to perform innovative MS application and method development.
Experience with small molecule MS and MS/MS accurate mass measurements, empirical formulae derivation and structural characterizations would be advantageous.
