Principal IS Software Engineer
Amgen is seeking a Principal IS Software Engineer and architect to join the multi-site Research & Development Informatics organization at its Thousand Oaks campus. The IS architect/Software Engineer will report to the Executive Director, Research Informatics.
The Research Informatics team supports Discovery Research and Translational Research organizations globally with innovative IS solutions to accelerate and grow Amgen's pipeline of biopharmaceuticals. Provide hand-on leadership to our software engineers to design and develop solutions on AWS
Lead delivery of technical solutions for portfolio of projects
Develop technology strategy, architecture, and roadmap for data and analytics solutions within Research
Represent Research IS in the enterprise architecture board
Collaborates with internal and external teams to leverage cloud/big data platforms
Keeps track of industry and cutting-edge technology trends, connect and foster external networking opportunities to look for new and innovative ways to do business differently
Manages the DevOps activities across internal teams and vendor teams to provide guidance, oversight and execution for the entire portfolio
Mentors junior software and data engineers on best practices
Help instill agile product mindset for our delivery teams
Doctorate degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience
Master's degree and 6 years of Information Systems experience
Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Information Systems experience
Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience
Master's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Life sciences
10+ years of experience in agile software design & development working across teams and locations in a biopharma industry
Strong written and oral communication skills and technical expertise to be able to communicate effectively with business executives and technology partners.
Strong delivery mindset with ability to design and develop large and complex solutions
Deep expertise in developing applications in the native AWS environment including but not limited to container technologies (e.g. Docker) and developing microservices
Experience in Java, .NET, Python, R, and/or Ruby expertise
Expertise in developing web applications and frameworks (e.g. Node.js)
Relevant experience in Enterprise Software Architecture, including data architecture and modeling using relational databases running SQL (AWS RDS Oracle) and non-SQL stores (e.g.,S3, graph databases, RDF store)
Service Oriented Architecture (REST/JSON, SOAP/XML, etc.)
Experience working with agile methodology & DevOps frameworks (e.g., Jenkins, Maven, Git) with successful experience working in a collaborative team environment
Ability to troubleshoot across layers of the technology stack
Ability to leverage his/her experience in delivering and supporting global information systems in an environment for a diverse and distributed user base while relying on a number of enterprise shared services
Effective internal and external relationships and operating across functional boundaries
Ability to translate strategic opportunities and emerging technology solutions into tangible pragmatic executable plans
