Amgen Principal IS Business Systems Analyst - Process Development in Thousand Oaks, California

Amgen is seeking a Principal Information Systems (IS) Business Systems Analyst to be located at its corporate campus in Thousand Oaks, CA. This key role within Operations IS (OIS) group will serve as owner of the Holistic Lab Platform. This transformational platform is driving fundamental improvements in how information is captured, managed and analyzed while structuring process execution for digital transformation. The Principal Information Systems (IS) Business Systems Analyst will collaborate with key stakeholders to define and deliver the digital lab roadmap for Operations. This individual will manage key vendors and partner with stakeholders orchestrating the implementation of solutions that enable next generation lab processes including simulations, machine learning and knowledge management.


Provide vision and lead design / implementation of digital lab initiatives providing experiment design, authoring and execution solutions

Work with cross-functional representatives across Process Development and sites to align business processes with Holistic Lab, PLM and Big Data technology capabilities

Actively engage with stakeholders to analyze business needs, recommend design, gather and document requirements; guided by best practices for Holistic Lab (HL), Instrument Data Acquisition, and reporting leveraging the Enterprise Data Lake platform

Collaborate with IS Architects, Infrastructure Leads and Business Analysts to develop roadmaps supporting organizational priorities and platform improvements

Provide guidance to project teams on developing approaches for addressing business needs, and presenting business cases for proposed solutions

Oversee vendors and contractors providing guidance as necessary to ensure the delivery of deliverables

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience


Master's degree and 6 years of Information Systems experience


Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Information Systems experience


Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Good overall understanding of business, manufacturing, and laboratory systems common in the process manufacturing as well as the integration of these systems through applicable standards

Experience managing a globally distributed enterprise application platform

Solid depth or breadth of expertise with offerings within the Lab solution landscape - including ELN, inventory management, MES and scientific analysis tools

Understanding of FDA regulations governing computer system validation and operation in biotech manufacturing and laboratory areas

Ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity, ability to see the big picture, ability to collect, digest and assemble information to enable relevant business analyses and facilitate decision-making

Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and implement new technologies and services to transform the business into a more agile, efficient and effective organization.

Experience directing solution design, business processes redesign and software implementation in a drug development lab / commercialization environment

Knowledge of Software Architecture and the structure of software solutions

Ability to master with minimal support, new IS technologies and processes

Experience leading distributed teams including external and offshore resources

Strong team player who is able to collaborate and provide leadership through influence to achieve the required results

Strong project management, negotiation, planning, and organizational change management skills

Experience in Agile Software Development Methods (e.g. Scrum)

PMP Certification or equivalent

Results oriented, strong adherence to meeting delivery timelines especially in complex agile project execution environments consisting of several sub-teams with multiple dependencies.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to set the context and present on complex subjects to senior management in clear and concise manner
