Amgen Pilot Plant - Specialist (Downstream) in Thousand Oaks, California
We are seeking an experienced Specialist for the Pilot Plant Downstream team (based in Thousand Oaks, CA) to execute a variety of production and technology related operations in a large-scale pilot plant. This Specialist will work in performing downstream process execution and support various activities (including large-scale chromatography, various types of filtration and ultrafiltration/diafilitration). The applicant should have experience managing projects, leading/performing technology development activities and characterization efforts.
The Thousand Oaks Pilot Plant performs frequent piloting of novel process operations (focusing
primarily on large molecule cell culture and purification operations), driving technology
development, supporting innovation across Amgen's entire spectrum, as well as executing non-
GMP and pre-pivotal GMP bioprocessing operations for multiple mammalian and microbial
Products, to develop & demonstrate production processes and produce bulk material. The environment is challenging and ever-changing, with varying degrees of process definition but very rewarding for those that like hands-on science and want to make process improvements in a development space.
A significant amount of time will be spent performing 'hands-on' work on the plant floor
executing runs and experiments, working with large-scale equipment, analyzing and summarizing data findings. Additional activities will include defining and documenting operation practices, ensuring documentation accurately reflects operations performed, implementing area improvements and lean principles, commissioning equipment, design of experiments, effectively communicating findings and participating in operations meetings. Must be able to work off hours or non-standard shifts.
Master's Degree 2 years of biotechnology manufacturing and/or process development environment
Bachelor's Degree 4 years of biotechnology manufacturing and/or process development environment
Associate's degree 10 years of biotechnology manufacturing and/or process development environment
High school diploma/GED 12 years of biotechnology manufacturing and/or process development environment
Strong knowledge of downstream purification, as well as facility operations experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry
General knowledge of the associated analytical, and media/buffer preparation techniques
Energetic and technically-minded, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to learn new systems and applications, and various new technologies

teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical/Biological Engineering (or
other related field) and 5 years of experience in Life Sciences field
