We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will be primarily responsible for analyzing scientific and business data. This individual will use in-silico and mathematical modeling to evaluate potential opportunities that enable changes in business and operation performance.

The Modeling Data Scientist is responsible for activities required for development, application, and deployment of highly accurate in-silico, mathematical and data driven models for combination products and their subcomponents, with the goal to increase the efficiency of combination product development and manufacturing processes. These projects will involve new or modified products or processes to improve combination product quality and reliability.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, established leader who can demonstrate quantitative experience to ask tough questions and enable Amgen’s digital transformation. In this role, you will interact with a wide range of business and operations leaders to understand processes, analyze data, and present findings. You will also be responsible for providing analytical support and enabling data driven decision making for end-to-end insight into the combination product lifecycle.

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world.

  • Develop in-silico and data driven models to support combination products and associated drug product packaging throughout their lifecycle.

  • Apply core engineering principles: structural, fluid, biomechanical, and multi-physics theory to develop novel first-principles and mechanistic computational models addressing combination products.

  • Formulate constitutive and governing equations describing key system characteristics / phenomena and design questions.

  • Build supervised and unsupervised algorithms to provide important insights across Amgen’s Combination Product operations.

  • Develop and debug in-silico models in commercial and proprietary software and deploy models to internal users via the enterprise modeling infrastructure

  • Ensure that qualification parameters are met for in-silico modeling performance requirements per the intended use.

  • Partner with multi-discipline data analytics teams to advance data analytics tools/features to answer important business questions against their well-defined requirements.

  • Transform ambiguous business and technical inquiries into measurable and impactful projects.

  • Collaborate multi-functionally with the test method and device development teams in the data collection and analytics required for model qualification.

  • Collaborate multi-functionally with teams of Manufacturing, development, Quality, and commercial leads.

  • Deliver training to individuals in the operation and maintenance of modeling assets.

  • Provide support for investigations as well as development of new processes required to improve combination product manufacturing operations (for quality, reliability, new product introduction, cost saving).

  • Perform ad hoc analysis and provide input to the leadership teams regarding trend and failure investigation and process improvements.

  • Serve as technical lead on projects and mentor engineers and data scientists.

  • Supply ideas, establish standard processes, and follow trends in industry and academia.

  • Develop and maintain coordinated timelines collecting appropriate multi-functional details and work which are aligned with the functional and project deliverables

  • Proactively identify issues and/or risks and develop mitigation options to resolve or call out efficiently.

The position may require approximately 10% travel to international locations assisting our development partners during implementation of modeling assets into their processes.
