Amgen Genetics Strategy and Business Development Senior Manager in Thousand Oaks, California
Amgen is seeking a versatile and ambitious Genetics Strategy and Business Development Senior Manager who will report to the Head of Genetics Strategy and Business Development to be involved in managing Amgen’s genetics strategy and business development activities. This position will be based in either Thousand Oaks, CA or San Francisco, CA.
The Genetics Strategy and Business Development Senior Manager will work closely with Amgen’s and deCODE Genetics’ senior leadership to lead and/or manage all or part of cross-functional, internal and external facing genetics related strategic projects and business development activities. Additionally, the Senior Manager will drive activities / work streams associated with active projects and business development deals.
Responsibilities of the Genetics Strategy and Business Development Senior Manager include:
Serves as the alliance manager for key strategic genetics related collaborations to ensure Amgen and deCODE achieve the envisioned goals and value from each collaboration
Conducts independent analyses of industry trends, developments, and genetics related news and competitive intelligence
Leads the design, execution, and follow-up of internal and external strategic meetings
Organizes, drives prioritization of, and tracks / reports progress on key genetics activities
Supports the Executive Director of Genetics Strategy and Business Development in other ad-hoc projects and activities as necessary
Doctorate degree & 2 years of Strategy and/or Biopharma and/or Healthcare and/or Business Development experience
Master’s degree & 4 years of Strategy and/or Biopharma and/or Healthcare and/or Business Development experience
Bachelor’s degree & 6 years of Strategy and/or Biopharma and/or Healthcare and/or Business Development experience
Associate’s degree & 10 years of Strategy and/or Biopharma and/or Healthcare and/or Business Development experience
High school diploma / GED & 12 years of Strategy and/or Biopharma and/or Healthcare and/or Business Development experience
PhD / Master’s degree in life sciences or medicine preferred; ideally with an MBA
6+ years’ experience in biotechnology / pharmaceutical / healthcare industry and / or in a top tier healthcare focused management consulting firm
Robust knowledge of biopharma industry, genetics, precision medicine and the healthcare industry in general
Demonstrated ability to engage with internal and external business leaders across a variety of functions (e.g. Strategy, BD, R&D, Commercial) to drive decisions and influence behaviors and outcomes
High emotional intelligence, coupled with refined interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and relationship management skills
Experience in business development with licensing agreements and/or mergers & acquisitions including solution-oriented negotiations and problem solving
Inquisitive, entrepreneurial mindset
Ability to research / learn/ synthesize findings rapidly on new topics
Experience and comfort working in a fast-paced ambiguous environment
Strong project management and facilitation skills
