Amgen Exec Medical Dir, Global Medical Affairs Oncology Platform Leader, Solid Tumor in Thousand Oaks, California

The Executive Medical Director, Global Medical Affairs Oncology Platform Leader for Solid Tumors will lead the Global Medical Affairs strategies for Amgen's Oncology marketed products and pipeline assets in the Solid Tumor platform. You will drive development and execution of medical strategies to maximize Amgen's value proposition in alignment with product and franchise strategies.

This role will oversee the Solid Tumor Oncology Therapeutic Area (TA) platform and supervise a team of Global Medical Affairs Leads (GMALs). The GMALs partner with (a) global product teams in creation and execution of global product strategy and (b) regional medical product leads in development and implementation of medical strategies that are integrated with regional product strategy. This role also will partner with cross-functional leadership responsible for advancing Amgen's early stage molecules for solid tumor targets and oversee strategies for evidence generation, scientific communication, and external engagement.

Within Amgen's Oncology TA, the Solid Tumor platform includes (a) XGEVA and Vectibix, which are mature products with global approvals and lifecycle management programs, (b) the oncolytic virus Talimogene Laherparepvec (Imlygic), licenced globally as monotherapy for treatment of advanced melanoma, and (c) early and mid-stage molecular targets directed against prostate cancer, NSCLC, SCLC, breast cancer, gastric cancer, and glioblastoma based on diverse modalities including BiTES, ADC conjugates, and CAR-T. This role will provide critical leadership in developing the global medical strategies across all programs.

The Global Medical Affairs Solid Tumor Platform Lead is specifically responsible for:

  • Leading the development of global medical strategies for marketed products and pipeline assets in the Solid Tumor platform in partnership with cross-functional leaders in Global Development, Commercial, and other stakeholders

  • Managing, directing, and mentoring product leads to ensure effective external stakeholder management, communication ( e.g. , clinical narrative framework, scientific platform, core content, congresses, and publications), evidence generation, medical education, and medical insights

  • Recruiting, building, developing and mentoring the Solid Tumor Medical Affairs team

  • Providing medical strategic perspectives to key commercialization forums for Solid Tumor products

  • Providing input into strategies for ensuring access to innovative Solid Tumor products globally

  • Overseeing resources and budget allocation necessary to deliver on Medical Affairs capabilities

  • Continuing to enhance Amgen's reputation as a science-based, patient-focused partner

Basic Qualifications

  • MD/DO degree from an accredited medical school OR PhD OR PharmD AND

  • Six (6) years of experience in Medical Affairs AND

  • Experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • MD plus accredited fellowship in Oncology or related medical discipline, board certified, or board eligible

  • Extensive experience in the Oncology therapeutic area

  • 10+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry (biotech, pharmaceutical, or CRO), including Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, or Clinical Study Management

  • 5+ years of Medical Affairs leadership experience, including collaborations with national health care systems, integrated delivery networks, accountable care organizations, and/or payers

  • Extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical product development, product lifecycle, and commercialization processes, including but not limited to, clinical operations, commercial, regulatory affairs, drug safety, and medical affairs

  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and global regulations and guidelines

  • Experience in a product launch environment

  • Finance, budgeting, and resource management experience

  • History of solving problems while exhibiting superior judgment and a balanced, realistic understanding of issues
