Amgen Director, Strategic Pricing and Contracting in Thousand Oaks, California

As a member of the US Value & Access team, the Director, Strategic Pricing & Contracting will report to the Executive Director, Strategic Pricing and Contracting (SPC). This position will be responsible for leading the US pricing and contracting strategies for a set of products within the portfolio. This individual will partner with the respective Business Unit and Marketing leaders, Value and Access leads, and the Contracting & Proposal Development team to develop pricing and contracting strategies that optimize access and profitability for the US portfolio. This individual will collaborate with Global and US Access teams to share insights on US based trends and issues as well as taking into consideration the product's value proposition.

Job Description

  • Engage Business Unit, Global Pricing and other relevant stakeholders (Finance, Legal, Government Affairs) in the development and delivery of comprehensive, three-year pricing/contracting plans (list price plans, net price plans, and customer/payer contracting strategy) for Amgen's marketed products in the US

  • Strategize around various pricing, contracting and reimbursement implications for commercial and government payers, providers, and programs

  • Support cross-Business Unit ad-hoc analytic projects, in collaboration with Brand/Marketing, Finance and Global Pricing as relevant, where scope and complexity exceed the focus or capability of Pricing Analysts, including forecasting of Gross-to-Net GTN / discount rates for relevant products

  • Ensure ongoing real-time feedback via post deal analytics to accurately adjust strategy and forecast gross-to-net discounts and proactively identify impacts to the annual and long-range financial plans

  • Provide competitive payer and provider contracting insights including innovative contracting approaches such as portfolio, risk-based and outcomes-based contracting

  • Provide quantitative and qualitative input in the assessment of implications of US trends and Health Care Reform (HCR) and government and health policy.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of consulting, marketing, finance, sales management, strategy, payer and/or contracting and pricing experience


  • Master's degree and 8 years of consulting, marketing, finance, sales management, strategy, payer and/or contracting and pricing experience


  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of consulting, marketing, finance, sales management, strategy, payer and/or contracting and pricing experience


  • 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of the US commercial and government healthcare and reimbursement environment

  • 8 or more years of both US Payer and Provider pricing and contracting experience/leadership in Pharma or Biotech industry

  • Natural leader of broad and complex organizations that can motivate and develop a diverse group of individuals

  • Proven ability to manage in a highly fluid, interactive, matrixed environment

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple simultaneous, complex projects to completion

  • Authoritative command of complexity and ambiguity

  • Ability to see the big picture; ability to collect, digest and assemble information to enable relevant business analyses and influence decision-making

  • Demonstrated ability to simplify a complex message and rationale

  • Exceptional strategic and analytical capabilities
