Amgen Director, Strategic Pricing and Contracting in Thousand Oaks, California

The Director, Strategic Pricing and Contracting is a key member of both the U.S. Value & Access (USV&A) organization and the General Medicine Coverage & Pricing Senior Leadership Team. The Director will be responsible for developing and executing the payer coverage and pricing contracting strategies for Repatha, Aimovig, and Corlanor. You are accountable for setting, achieving, and maintaining payer coverage goals within budget to ensure patient access to Amgen products. You will lead a cross-functional team and engage with business unit leadership while leading qualitative and quantitative pricing/contracting analyses to support the payer contacting strategy and drive decision making. This position will be responsible for overseeing the quarterly LEDR process and will work with finance to project the overall coverage impact on sales goals, discount rates, forecasts, quarterly business reviews, and long-term planning.

Are you the successful candidate that will develop and execute the Coverage & Pricing strategy for Repatha and Aimovig in collaboration with USV&A leadership and BCBU/NuBU brand teams? You'll ensure alignment of strategy and carry through of the plan with cross-functional teams including Brand, Medical, Patient Access, Value Marketing, GHE, Trade, and Policy. The Director will support the Market Access team with product-specific contract negotiations with payer customers, monitor and communicate progress towards payer coverage/POA goals, including meaningful coverage changes, and partner with Market Access and field sales team to maximize pull-through. Additionally, you will collaborate with Brand, Patient Access, Value Marketing and Training to develop semester POA, resources, and training for the Market Access and field sales teams.

Key Job Responsibilities

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above:

  • Lead meetings to ensure alignment in LRS strategy and pull through of the plan with cross-functional teams including Brand, Market Access, Value Marketing, GHE, Patient Access, Medical, Trade, and Policy

  • Proactive support with bi-annual strategic LRS/brand planning and quarterly business reviews

  • Conduct regular meetings with Market Access team to align on account level payer strategy and negotiations for Commercial and Part D bids

  • Collaborate with Patient Access and brand teams to maintain/develop patient support programs in real-time for pull-through opportunities

  • Collaborate with Value Marketing team to create Repatha and Aimovig specific value strategy, messaging, tools for Market Access Team and data generation plan in alignment with brand strategy

  • Collaborates with Value Marketing and training to develop Market Access Team semester plan of action, semester meeting content/training and reimbursement goals

  • Collaborates with BCBU/NuBU brand teams and sales team to develop semester meeting content related to payer strategy and environment

  • Triage Coverage & Pricing related questions and issues and ensure that items are addressed including training where needed for sales teams and Market Access Team

  • Coordinate Coverage & Pricing budget management

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of marketing, sales management and/or payer experience,

Or

  • Master’s degree and 7 years of marketing, sales management and/or payer experience,

Or

  • Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of marketing, sales management and/or payer experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in leading a broad and cross-functional team in delivering results

  • Creativity in addressing strategic challenges; displays high intellectual curiosity and passion for learning

  • Develops and delivers concise, relevant and well‐supported briefings and adapts presentation style with knowledge, credibility and maturity to influence senior management

  • Experience developing strategies to optimize coverage and patient access within highly competitive markets

  • Experience conducting situation analysis of external pricing and reimbursement environment and synthesizing relevant information to develop strategic plans

  • Direct US payer experience and/or health policy experience

  • US pricing and access experience for injectable therapies through variety of channels

  • Experience in developing financial forecast models to formulate business cases for senior leadership

  • Ability to conduct pricing studies to formulate pricing policy and contracting strategy recommendations

  • Ability to develop value messages and align with evidence to demonstrate and communicate product value to payers

  • Long range planning and/or experience in product commercialization

  • Prior experience in the cardiovascular and/or neurology therapeutic area
