Amgen Director, Reimbursement Access and Value Lead, Nephrology in Thousand Oaks, California

As a member of the US Value & Access team, the Nephrology RAV (Reimbursement Access and Value) director will create and be accountable for execution of market access and strategies for Parsabiv and Aranesp in the US. Lead the RAV team that supports key payer planning processes including execution of payer/pricing research, development of the situation analysis, creation of molecule-specific payer strategies and tactical plans, and access tool development and implementation


  • Lead development of marketing strategy for Payer/Access strategic choices and recommendations, and plan development including Access message strategy and value communication to HCPs, Dialysis Providers, Hospitals and Payers

  • Ensure alignment in execution of the strategic plan with colleagues in related functions including Value Marketing, Pricing & Contracting, Trade & Distribution, Nephrology Marketing, and Healthcare Policy

  • Align cross functional work streams including engagement GPMA, USHPR, GHE, and Brand to support business dynamics and competitive environment

  • Overall RAV Marketing alignment with product, as well as budget and vendor management lead

  • Support Executive Director with pricing and contracting scenarios, contract decisions, LEDR and LRP management, Reimbursement Strategy

  • Ensure that reimbursement, value, and access are not barriers for reaching all financial goals for marketed products

  • Ensure understanding of USHPR Policy trends and opportunistic submissions/ applications. Work with the Policy and Reimbursement team to develop strategies to address future market scenarios and maintain access for marketed products

  • Executing RAV components of the brand plan to ensure messages appropriately drive utilization, differentiation and growth, and align with the life-cycle of the product

  • Oversee and conduct market research complete with RFP in coordination with BAI team and integrate clinic, market, and payer information into the development of strategic and tactical plans

  • Developing resources, training, and tools for the organized customer team to support appropriate access and reimbursement of Amgen marketed products

  • Effectively managing performance and resources of vendors and contractors, including advertising, training, and reimbursement and access support agencies

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of marketing, sales management and/or payer experience


  • Master's degree and 8 years of marketing, sales management and/or payer experience


  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of marketing, sales management and/or payer experience


  • 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing strategies to optimize payer coverage and patient access within highly competitive markets

  • Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative pricing studies to formulate price policy and contracting strategy recommendations

  • Prior experience in the Nephrology therapeutic area

  • Ability to develop value messages and align with evidence to demonstrate and communicate product value to payers and providers

  • Experience conducting situation analysis of external pricing and reimbursement environment and synthesizing relevant information to develop strategic plans

  • US pricing and access experience

  • Experience developing and implementing patient access support and programs

  • Strategic planning and/or experience in product commercialization

  • Direct payer experience and/or health policy experience

  • US pricing, reimbursement, and access experience

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix environment; managing projects involving multiple functions and shared accountabilities

  • Demonstrated creativity in addressing strategic challenges; displays high intellectual curiosity and passion for learning; thinks out-of-the-box; asks the right questions; seeks expert opinions and insights; applies innovative ideas and takes measured risks. Develops and articulates a strong, value-based strategy
