Director of Project Controls
This position can be remote within the United States; preferably within commutable distance from any of the Amgen sites.
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. The Director of Project Controls for Front-end Planning will be providing leadership in support of project planning, funding, scheduling, estimating, risk management, benchmarking and compliance of Engineering Processes Globally.
This role will lead the planning phase of the project’s life cycle enabling quick & accurate technical solutions leading to tighter budget controls upfront and improved execution approach.
This position will have a meaningful role in the development and accuracy of estimates across all projects and will work closely with Project Management Regional Leads. These responsibilities start at the planning phase and remain through project close out and acceptance by the end user.
The Director will manage the estimating and scheduling teams supporting capital projects across the various Amgen sites. This position will partner with all internal cross functional groups that support capital projects, including: Engineering Technical Authority, Project Management, Facilities Management, Global Site Engineering, Capital Finance and various Amgen internal business partners. He or She will also lead substantial aspects of Engineering Digital Transformation for Project Controls in partnership other leaders within the Organization.
The successful candidate is expected to be highly detailed oriented with excellent analytic and problem-solving skills and the ability to develop, train, and manage a diverse team of resources.
The location of this role will allow for a combination of remote and flexible commuting to any of the Amgen sites located in North America.
Develop conceptual estimates for early Engineering assessments
Ensure accuracy and completeness of all estimates in preparation for funding requests across the overall capital portfolio
Lead the internal and external benchmarks for capital projects globally
Provide leadership support for risk analysis reviews for cost estimates, cost forecasts, and schedules using applicable software packages
Prepare project controls metrics and key performance indicators
Leadership and management responsibilities for the global scheduling organization
Drive innovation across the Engineering organization
Provide global support to the Engineering Digital Technologies initiative
Provide insights to global market conditions, focusing on labor rates and material costs
Provide global leadership to the Engineering Project Delivery Process (EPD)
Coordinate internal audits and assist in identifying compliance risks
The person will be required to travel on a regular basis to all of Amgen’s sites where Project Controls staff are located

What we expect of you
We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. We are looking for a professional with the following qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 4 years of Engineering and / or Capital projects delivery experience
Master’s degree and 7 years of Engineering and / or Capital projects delivery experience
Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of Engineering and / or Capital projects delivery experience
4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
10 or more years of engineering or construction experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology/Engineering industry in project controls (Estimating, Cost and Risk Management, Scheduling, Contract Strategy)
10 or more years of experience in executing project controls on projects
5 or more years managing a project controls staff across multiple sites
Experience managing all levels of experience within project controls
Ability to build strong relationships across the network
Knowledge of project controls with expertise in Conceptual Estimating
Understanding of change management, estimating, and cost and schedule management
Analysis and accurate review of engineering / construction estimates against scope
Experience in progress measurement methods such as Earned Value Management
Experience in cost and scheduling software packages
Experience in software packages such Tableau, Power Bi, Procore, Primavera P6, etc
Experience in lean construction, including Target Value Design
Understanding workflows and dimensions of BIM and opportunities for integration with cost and schedule when managing capital projects
