Amgen Director of Business Performance - Manufacturing in Thousand Oaks, California

The Director of Business Performance - Manufacturing will act as the Chief of Staff, reporting to the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Manufacturing, and serving as a member of the Manufacturing Leadership Team (MLT). The Director is responsible for management and on-time execution of SVP related deliverables and management of the Manufacturing leadership as a team.

As a member of the leadership team, this individual will consistently work with executive management across Manufacturing and requires the utmost confidentiality. This highly visible position will be involved in leadership discussions regarding current and future Manufacturing and business challenges, decisions, and pressing topics across the Manufacturing network and Amgen.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Manufacturing business performance with responsibility to design and facilitate processes intended to advance strategy and objectives within Manufacturing

  • Leverage data and analytics to inform business decisions and summarizes information into key findings for senior leadership

  • Provide leadership to key initiatives and strategic projects across Manufacturing, including proactively identifying and removing roadblocks, driving program management, content creation, and presentation

  • Drive the evolution of the Manufacturing strategic plan, and timely execution of milestones

  • Create and lead efficient approach to continuously track Manufacturing Year-Over-Year Productivity projects and communicate their target achievement aligned across manufacturing sites

  • Responsible for presentation creation from ideation to finalization for quarterly Manufacturing business day meetings and annual functional strategic reviews

  • Continuously track and communicate progress and adherence to strategic initiative and goal timelines

  • Partner with VP Site Heads and manufacturing sites to align deliverables, metrics capture, and alignment on value creation

  • Ensure on time delivery of any SVP action items and commitments (e.g. benchmarking from external organization) and monthly communications/reports such as content for CEO report and SVP stoplight dashboards

  • Responsible for bi-weekly MLT meetings. This includes coordinating agenda topics, consolidating presentation and pre-read content, distributing pre-reads, facilitating each meeting, and creating/distributing minutes and follow up on action items

  • Responsible for Manufacturing All-Staff meetings

  • Partner with Manufacturing HR Business Partner to support talent management meetings, staffing/organizational initiatives as deemed necessary, and organizational or workforce strategy related efforts

  • Partner with Manufacturing Finance lead to educate on and translate functional priorities and business details related to financials. Partner on data and visualization appropriate for audience and oversight of organizational shape and budget

  • May serve as a single point of contact for Quality impacting initiatives and projects

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of manufacturing and/or similar experience

OR

Master's degree and 8 years of manufacturing and/or similar experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 10 years of manufacturing and/or similar experience

AND

4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Direct experience partnering with and influencing executive leadership

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and executive presence, including ability to storyline and prepare executive-level presentations and pre-reads

  • Adapting and thriving in a rapidly changing and fast-moving environment

  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different functions and levels of the organization

  • Independent, motivated and proactive team member with experience in a matrixed, highly fluid environment

  • Ability to foster collaboration, work effectively on cross-functional teams and consistently deliver on-time while serving as a role model for Amgen values and leadership attributes

  • Ability to gather disparate information and develop into executive ready materials

  • Direct experience in a cross-functional business operations or strategic project management role

  • Deep understanding of all Manufacturing functions

  • Broad and deep understanding of Operations

  • Highly organized

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and supporting functions (e.g. Human Resources, Finance)

  • Amgen financial acumen and ability to interpret and communicate financial information

  • Models good DAI behaviors and reinforces proper decision making and meeting management according to DAI framework

  • Able to excel in a matrixed organization, and possess strategic thinking and sound project management skills
