Amgen Director External Engagement in Thousand Oaks, California

The Director for Final Product External Engagement is the lead for combination and final drug product External Engagement Program at Amgen. This leadership position will be accountable for the cross functional team that will develop and advance Amgen's combination and final drug product strategy for external engagement (presentations, and publications) with regulatory agencies, standards committees, and key technical forums. The goal is to enable faster filings and launches of combination products by defining clear strategic objectives and executing tactical plans at key leadership in regulatory, technical forums, and quality forums. This position is in Thousand Oaks and reports to the Executive Director of Core Technologies in the Final Products technology organization.

This individual must be able to collaborate with a highly skilled network of subject matter experts (SME) in process development, quality, regulatory, and information services. The Director of combination and final drug product External Engagement is responsible for the successful implementation of the external engagement business processes, providing periodic governance updates including health checks, ensuring functional leads are assigned and performing per expectations, executing a robust media and speaker training program per plan, leading a new technology pilot (on semiautomated external information gathering system) and driving Amgen's One voice in external engagement. This lead is the authoritative advisor to executive management on the external engagement program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead external engagement strategy development with cross functional team

  • Execution of the Amgen combination external engagement strategy

  • Annual/Periodic update to strategy

  • Escalation and resolution of issues to governance

  • Formal training program for external presenters

  • Run a network of cross function experts to develop and deliver results

  • Conduct network reviews, including the performance of SMEs and executive sponsors

  • Regular communications of objectives and status to stakeholders

  • Continuously improve systems/culture

  • Develop and track budgets and expense plans

Basic Requirements:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of directly related experience, OR

Master's degree and 8 years of directly related years, OR

Bachelor's degree and 10 years of directly related experience

AND

4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Pharmaceutical, Materials Science, Regulatory Sciences or related discipline.

  • 10 years management experience within the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry

  • Extensive knowledge of combination product (technical, quality and regulatory)

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively in global cross-functional teams and in a highly matrixed team environment. Drive change, efficiency, and strong cross-functional relationships.

  • Up to 30% Domestic and international travel may be required.
