Amgen is searching for a Director, Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) within the Manufacturing and Clinical Supply (MCS) in Thousand Oaks, CA to drive safe, compliant, and sustainable operations. Director EHSS is an excellent opportunity for a creative problem solver to craft EHSS processes within MCS for years to come. This role will provide the candidate with opportunities to collaborate with staff and leaders in EHSS, Manufacturing, Facilities and Engineering, Process Development, Quality, and Clinical Supply as well as the MFG EHSS network. The successful candidate will contribute to broader EHSS initiatives as a member of the EHSS Global leadership team as well as deliver results through influence and communicating effectively with clients.
In this vital role, you will direct a team of EHSS professionals to implement the overall EHSS management program and interact with MCS leadership to:
Integrate EHSS management system, environmental sustainability, and actively caring principles into bio-manufacturing processes
Develop multi-year strategic EHSS plan and implement through goals and other performance objectives
Conduct and mature governance processes with MCS management to drive continuous improvements
Facilitate and drive active caring culture across the organization
Analyze, recommend, and implement performance improvement opportunities which are data drive and science-based
Provide oversight of EHSS program requirements, practices, and processes to ensure key standards are met and maintained.
Influence and support line management to ensure that EHSS performance is appropriately managed

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree & 4 years of EHSS experience OR
Master’s degree & 8 years of EHSS experience OR
Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of EHSS experience AND
4 years of managerial experience directly handling people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or advising the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications:
B.S. degree in environment, safety, industrial hygiene, technical, scientific, or engineering or equivalent experience
Advanced degree strongly preferred
12+ years of experience developing and implementing EHSS programs within a biotechnology/pharmaceutical company
Extensive applied knowledge and understanding of EHSS principles and practices, regulatory standards, and requirements in the context of business activities
Strong leadership engagements and team building, strong communication and executive influencing skills, proactive, self-starting, program development and project management
