Digitalization is generating large quantities of data and when used with intelligent automation, it will transform how we do work in Engineering. Be part of the Engineering Digital Transformation (EDT) within Global Engineering at Amgen. We are embarking on a journey that will digitize and automate how we deliver capital projects and asset lifecycle management.

Amgen is seeking a Business Product Owner to support the development and sustainment of multiple digital solutions/products within the EDT Initiative. The EDT initiative is responsible for the digital advancement of the Engineering Project Delivery including Plan, Design, Build, Test, Operate & Maintain and Dispose.

In support of Amgen’s mission to serve patients, the application of technology and innovation thinking with the digital solutions/products developed will create new levels of efficiency and speed in Asset Lifecycle Management.

The Business Product Owner must be a strategic problem solver. This person will create and maintain product capability roadmap using either a “pilot and scale” approach or “wireframe, prototyping and industrialization” approach. The product owner shall solicit feedback and make decisions for the digital solutions/products as well as able to ensure tactical execution is both timely and of consistent high quality using agile methodology. Domain competency in engineering project delivery (planning, design, construction and commissioning) is required. An understanding of Data Governance, Data Management and Data Standardization is helpful in managing the product development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project manage engineering teams (SMEs), users, DTI, ODS&C, customers, UX and Product Management to understand business requirements and customer pain points.

  • Break down high level business requirements into written detailed requirements consumable by data engineering teams, development teams or third party suppliers.

  • Problem solve complex requirements and use cases to create intuitive and creative solution.

  • Conduct requirements review sessions.

  • Articulate the requirements with help of visuals - flow diagrams etc. where it makes sense.

  • Participate in scrum/sprint meetings to provide clarity on requirements and acceptance criteria at requirement level.

  • Explain design decisions and articulate the advantages and risks of decisions.

  • Manage and track requirements change requests.

  • Work with client teams to get an agreement on scope of changes and enhancements to existing products.

  • Work with content writer to develop product release notes, training material and user guide updates.

  • Demo the product to client teams when required.

  • Become the go to person for how products are used and configured.


What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of Engineering/Business Analyst experience OR

  • Master’s degree and 6 years of Engineering/Business Analyst experience OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of Engineering/Business Analyst experience OR

  • Associate’s degree and 10 years of Engineering/Business Analyst experience OR

  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Engineering/Business Analyst experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience Capital Project delivery and execution.

  • Good acumen as a Business Analyst.

  • Strong analytic and problem-solving ability

  • Initiative and drive to contribute

  • Excellent organizational and task management skills

  • Ability to work in global cross-office teams

  • Experience with data visualization tool (e.g., Tableau, Spotfire)

  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate / communicate technical information to a variety of audiences

  • Ability to operate in a matrixed or team environment with site, functional, and executive leadership
