Data Engineer - Drug Discovery


What you will do

As part of a multi-year initiative to unlock the potential of data generated from Amgen’s past and current research projects, we are currently seeking a computational data engineer to join our multidisciplinary research team of computational and experimental scientists. In this vital role, you will be working with bench scientists and data scientists to develop tools and processes to capture and analyze data and to derive actionable insights from discovery research.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation, analysis and visualization of broad range of research data

  • Working with both internal and external software solutions to assist drug discovery

  • Building and maintaining scientific tools and infrastructure

  • Working effectively with project teams to develop informatics solutions to satisfy business needs

  • Communicating research results internally and externally


What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

Master’s degree


Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of Data Science experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in computational sciences (computational biology, bioinformatics, or related fields), computer science, applied math/statistics

  • Strong scientific programming and software development experience

  • Experience using modern software engineering tools and practices (version control, automated CI/CD pipelines)

  • Experience working with cloud services (preferably Amazon Web Services)

  • Knowledge of database tools and best practices

  • Experience in data science techniques

  • Knowledge of biochemistry, bioinformatics, and chemistry

  • Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary team environment
