What you will do

The AWS Automation Engineer will be responsible for the technical service delivery and support of Amgen’s Cloud Desktop VDI service. This role will lead all relevant infrastructure and AWS services, maintain automation developed in Python and PowerShell, and train and assist support staff. The AWS Automation Engineer will work closely with the service manager and AWS developer to produce tools and automation to meet evolving service management and business requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide technical oversight for all Cloud Desktop service elements including:

  • AWS services (WorkSpaces, Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, API Gateway, IAM, VPC, AWS Security Groups)

  • Service Integration (ServiceNow, Power Automate)

  • Desktop management integration (OS Patching, Software Delivery)

  • Active Directory (AD GPOs, OUs, and Groups)

  • Collaborate with developer to build, test, and release service automation and management tools

  • Develop and maintain service automation and management tools using AWS tools, Python, and PowerShell

  • Train support staff and provide assistance with technical issues as vital

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security and change control policies

  • Manage response for high priority incidents and outages

  • Collaborate on Cloud Desktop solution strategy and adapt solution to evolving business requirements

  • Work with client organizations to identify and address business needs

  • Drive ongoing improvement to security, support, performance, policy compliance, and documentation

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree


Master’s degree and 3 years of Information Systems and software, mobile, or web experience


Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of Information Systems and software, mobile, or web experience


Associate degree and 10 years of Information Systems and software, mobile, or web experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems and software, mobile, or web experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communications and team leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to managing technical delivery of an enterprise VDI solution

  • Experience running large scale enterprise service deployments

  • Detailed knowledge of Python and experience with Docker or AWS Lambda

  • Experience with AWS products including VPC, Dynamo DB, IAM, EC2, and S3

  • Competence with PowerShell Scripting for AWS and Active Directory

  • Understanding of Windows server administration

  • Solid understanding of Desktop Management related technologies and processes, including Microsoft SCCM, Active Directory, networking, monitoring, patching, group policy, image development, and sophisticated desktop troubleshooting
