Amgen ATO B23 Business Performance Sr Mgr in Thousand Oaks, California

Own the business performance of ATO B23 operations

  • Develop and execute the strategy for the bulk drug substance value stream

  • Mature business practices/processes that deliver value, eliminate those that erode value, and implement innovative solutions to deliver a highly reliable and more efficient business model

  • Support business/resource forecasting, financial modeling and trend analysis to drive decisions

  • Manage total spend and headcount against annual budget and resource plans

  • Facilitate business performance reviews to assess and improve performance(e.g. daily management meeting, goal setting/review, plant management review, etc.)

  • Ensure effective decision making and timely communication

  • Enhance business acumen of the manufacturing organization

  • Develop opportunity/risk and cost/benefit analyses and develop business cases

  • Provide thought leadership in business and financial analysis to enhance value capture

Drive Operational Excellence for ATO B23 operations

  • Create an environment that fosters accountability, innovation, learning and knowledge sharing

  • Champion cultural transformation and institutionalize continuous improvement in processes, practices, business models, organizational structure, governance, etc.

  • Facilitate / participate in network benchmarking (learning/sharing)

  • Lead and support global and site FTO initiatives as needed

Own risk management process for ATO B23 operations

  • Establish and maintain risk identification and mitigation process that ensures transparency to and timely closure of ATO B23 risks

  • Create an environment that promotes rapid learning and adaptation from strategic experimentation while effectively managing risk

Lead project management activities for ATO B23 operations

  • Oversee project management staff responsible for execution of plant projects and commercial technology transfers

Increase both internal and external collaboration

  • Demonstrate personal credibility and build strong working relationships, break barriers and influence across organizational and/or geographic boundaries to achieve highly efficient and reliable business performance

  • Collaborate with functional area managers across the site and extended drug substance network to deploy the necessary resources in support of key strategic imperatives for Amgen (e.g. tech transfers, technology development, benchmarking, etc.)

  • Strengthen relationships with key partners across the drug substance network to increase value for patients, staff and shareholders

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in life science or engineering and 2 years of Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Project Management, or Finance experience

OR

  • Master's degree in life science or engineering and 6 years of Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Project Management, or Finance experience

OR

  • Bachelor's degree in life science or engineering or and 8 years of Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Project Management, or Finance experience

OR

*Associate's degree in life science or engineering or and 10 years of Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Project Management, or Finance experience

OR

*High School Diploma/GED and 12 years of Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Project Management, or Finance experience

AND 2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master Degree in Business Administration

  • In depth business understanding of manufacturing or operations in biotechnology, biopharmaceuticals or pharmaceuticals industry

  • Eight or more years of experience in manufacturing operations

  • Six or more years of leadership experience with two or more years as a cross-functional team leader

  • Four or more years of experience operating in a cGMP environment

  • Excellent communication skills, drive, sense of urgency, energy level and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to recommend, judge, and make good decisions in complex situations

  • Ability to responsibly and professionally address difficult business and personnel issues; manage conflict effectively with demonstrated negotiating, partnering, influencing skills

  • Ability to effectively develop and coach staff and team, and positively advance the culture of an organization
