Principal Scientist - Biotransformation

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will work with broad range of scientific expertise and leadership across the Research organization. The role will broadly cover biotransformation of small molecules, proteins and RNAi therapeutics.
Amgen is seeking a highly motivated scientist to join the Pharmacokinetics & Drug Metabolism (PKDM) department at our site in South San Francisco, California. The department of pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism (PKDM) within Amgen is dedicated to the discovery and development of novel effective, safe medicines. The successful candidate will work in a team environment to characterize the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetic properties of therapeutic drug candidates to achieve their full pharmacological potential. PKDM works in close partnership with disciplines such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to design promising clinical therapeutic candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings.
The Bio-transformation Principlal Scientist leader will be in charge of implementing cutting edge separations and mass spectrometry tools (LC/MS) for the identification, quantitative and qualitative analysis of novel drug candidates and their metabolites from in vitro and in vivo biological matrices.
The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to design and execute experiments to conduct metabolite identification, isolation and characterization, have general understanding of enzyme kinetics, and understand clearance mechanism in support of both drug discovery and development programs. This role requires an excellent understanding of preclinical in vivo models, in vitro ADME and bioanalytical techniques. This role is ideally suited for an individual that can work collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment. The candidate should also assist in new technology, strategies, and data processing implementation. Other responsibilities/opportunities will include writing scientific reports, author original scientific manuscripts and present results to project teams or at scientific meetings.

- Doctorate degree and 3 years of Scientific experience
- Master’s degree and 6 years of Scientific experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of Scientific experience
PhD or MS in chemistry, biochemistry, or equivalent.
Experience with operation, troubleshooting, and data interpretation of a mass spectrometer is required.
Experience with operation of automated liquid sample handling instruments and experience with analysis of radiolabeled compounds is desired.
The candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to excel in a highly collaborative, matrixed team environment.
Interactions and collaboration with academic and other external scientists are encouraged.
