Amgen EH&S Senior Manager in South San Francisco, California
We are looking for an experienced professional in the Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) field to provide EHSS management system leadership and client support for several research functions globally. In addition, this role will lead a number of site safety programs supporting the South San Francisco research facility including serving as the site Radiation Safety Officer.
The successful candidate will:
Provide leadership to the EHSS governance processes supporting several research functions across the organization globally
Support management and continuous improvement of cross functional research organization safety teams
Apply a Plan, Do Check, Act management systems approach to improve performance
Track metrics and develop tools that will allow research functional leadership to effectively drive continuous EHSS improvement across the organization
Serve as program owner and site subject matter expert in designated programs including:
Risk assessment and project design safety assessments
Provide expertise in radiation safety and serve as the site Radiation Safety Officer
Flexibility to support other site EHSS programs as needed
Communicate effectively to through multiple channels (written, verbal, presentation etc.)
Primary responsibilities include:
Align, advance and implement EHSS strategy across the research organization
Prepare EHSS governance dashboards and provide mentorship and expertise to research functional leadership
Lead cross functional EHSS client support teams to ensure policy alignment and continuous improvement across the research organization
Manage a comprehensive site Radiation Protection Program and ensure compliance with Amgen policies and federal, state and local regulations guidelines and current technology pertaining to radiation safety, radioactive waste and radioactive material transportation
Serve as primary liaison for California Department of Public Health Radiologic Health Branch regulatory inspections and all other regulators pertaining to radiation safety compliance
Evaluate impact of changes to existing and/or new regulations upon Amgen operations and develop new programs and implement changes as necessary
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills; have a strong understanding of laboratory safety, industrial hygiene, radiation safety and industrial safety principles and a consistent record in maturing programs and processes. The position requires the ability to collaborate cross functionally and to influence management across many functions.
Doctorate degree and 2 years of Health Physics/Radiological Health, Medical Physics Or Radiation Safety
Master’s degree and 6 years of Health Physics/Radiological Health, Medical Physics Or Radiation Safety
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of Health Physics/Radiological Health, Medical Physics Or Radiation Safety
Associate’s degree and 10 years of Health Physics/Radiological Health, Medical Physics Or Radiation Safety
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Health Physics/Radiological Health, Medical Physics Or Radiation Safety
10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry leading EHSS programs
Demonstrated success in leading Radiation safety programs including both radioactive material and radiation-producing machines
Relevant EHSS Certifications such as Certified Health Physicist, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Registered Biosafety Professional or Certified Biological Safety Professional.
Strong leadership and team building skills
Process driven with a strong Operational Excellence approach
Strong communication and presentation skills, action oriented, self-starting, program development and project management
Strong technical writing skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software systems
