Amgen Associate Scientist - Translational Immunology in South San Francisco, California

The Translational Immunobiology laboratory within the Comparative Biology and Safety Sciences organization at Amgen is seeking a talented Associate Scientist to drive the development and execution of custom in vitro immunological bioassays.

Responsibilities include executing human and pre-clinical species-based functional cellular assays to support the understanding of target biology, target expression, candidate safety liability, pharmacodynamic biomarker development, bioactivity or immune mechanistic issue resolution. Will also interact and collaborate with interdisciplinary scientists in the Translational Sciences and Discovery Research organizations, such as toxicology, biologics, bioinformatics, proteomics, genome analysis unit, oncology, inflammation, cardiometabolic and neuroscience disease areas. Understand target biology, design and execute assays to understand mechanism of action and predict immune mechanistic safety liabilities.

Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree and 2 years of Scientific experience


Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of scientific experience or Master's degree with 4+ years of scientific experience

  • Background in immunology, cancer immunobiology and/or cell biology

  • Demonstrated expertise in working with a variety of in vitro immune and/or hematopoietic cellular systems including mixed cell culture systems and working with primary cells

  • Demonstrated expertise in cellular functional endpoint measures, including cell surface phenotypic changes, proliferation, activation, phagocytosis, target cell killing, production of soluble factors

  • Proficiency with a variety of molecular and cellular biology techniques including, but not limited to, flow cytometry, mass cytometry, cellular transfection/transduction, PCR, ELISA, etc.

  • Ability to work independently in experimental planning, design, execution, optimization, data analysis, interpretation and communication

  • Ability to balance moving projects forward in the face of continuously evolving priorities and timelines while creating an environment of scientific curiosity promoting the exchange of ideas

  • Excels in skills related to time management, attention to detail and documentation

  • Comfort with working in a highly interactive, interdisciplinary and vibrant environment and a passion for teamwork
