Director, Learning & Performance (L&P) and Diversity, Inclusion, & Belonging (DI&B), JAPAC Region


What you will do

The Director, L&P and DI&B will lead a sizable team to drive field force excellence through developing and executing JAPAC field sales training and build DI&B culture cross JAPAC region. This role will report to Vice President of Field Force Excellence and Commercial DI&B and work closely with Region and Affiliate senior leaders.

Key Focus Areas:

Learning & Performance:

  • Establish learning & development objectives and initiatives that translate strategy into actionable, goal-oriented behaviors of high performing commercial field teams.

  • Identify, develop, and implement advanced learning programs focused on clinical acumen, skill development, strategic partnerships, and account management designed to improve the effectiveness of all field teams.

  • Lead collaborative efforts with stakeholders to define desired performance outcomes and provide feedback & in-the-field coaching on issues related to learning programs and policies.

  • Proactively assesses performance gaps within field teams in collaboration with appropriate colleagues and seeks opportunities to address gaps through training initiatives and programs.

  • Work collaboratively with the Sales Leadership team and other cross-functional departments to support new hires from onboarding, completion of new hire training and ongoing skill development.

  • Oversee, engage, and collaborate with selected group of high performing field trainers to elevate the new hire experience and pull through training initiatives in the field.

  • Design innovative and specific metrics to assess the sales performance and the success of training activities.

  • Anticipate needs to create a modern, digital learning experience that enable development and long-term career growth.

  • Efficiently manages vendor partners from selection through content development and deployment.

  • Attract, develop and retain sales trainers cross the region, demonstrate strong leadership to build a highly engaged remote working team in the region

Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DI&B)

  • Translate and champion DI&B strategies and initiatives to advance and scale our commitment on DI&B, with the alignment of Amgen’s values, mission, purpose, and culture.

  • Design and deliver a multi-year DI&B roadmap in JAPAC that aligns to our company strategic plan and key priorities to deliver simple, impactful, actionable solutions and outcomes.

  • Align, consult, and partner with key stakeholders across Amgen JAPAC to effectively drive employee engagement, and embed and strengthen DI&B practices into all areas of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, development, engagement, and retention.

  • Develop, monitor, and analyze DI&B dashboard of relevant data to monitor progress against goals and objectives, and consult on actions to address gaps.

  • Provide guidance and thought leadership as a contributing member to local affiliates in JAPAC to advance a diverse and inclusive workforce.

  • Advocate for our people by championing and collaborating across multiple disciplines focusing on continuous improvement of our DI&B practices, policies, and standards.

  • Partner with cross-functional leadership and other stakeholders to develop and execute strategies for attracting diverse talent into the organization (e.g., talent acquisition, university relations, commercial development, and leadership programs).

  • Create, deliver, and facilitate training and group discussion opportunities for employees; topics could include, but are not limited to unconscious bias, anti-racism, cultural awareness and sensitivity, creating an inclusive workplace, disability inclusion and belonging, LGBTQIA+ inclusion and belonging, and cultivating diverse teams

  • Develop and deliver train-the-trainer sessions for the DI&B Advisory Group, affiliate key stakeholders

  • Benchmark and stay current on external trends and best practices to identify innovative DI&B solutions.

  • Establish and grow relationships with external DI&B entities and customer groups (e.g., industry and hospital organizations).

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 4 years + of field force training ( sales or marketing) experiences


Master’s degree and 8 years + of field force training ( sales or marketing) experiences


Bachelor’s degree and 10 years + of field force training ( sales or marketing) experiences


8 years + of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • Results-oriented professional who demonstrate strong consultative problem-solving ability to understand and translate data into quick & actionable insights to support decision-making

  • Ability to command a strong classroom presence, understand the pharmaceutical industry, and display the ability to convert concepts, skills, and knowledge into a learning context for participants

  • Exceptional ability to consult and collaborate with senior business leaders to deliver on commitments

  • Experience delivering training to a variety of audiences in a corporate setting

  • A growth mindset and demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends, whole-person wellness and concepts around employee engagement and work environments.

  • Demonstrated teamwork ability with high emotional intelligence in managing multiple business initiatives and cross-functional relationships

  • Experience leading and influencing others, to include experience managing direct reports, coaching, and developing individuals and a team preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication, presentation and facilitation skills

  • Strong subject matter expertise in DI&B, with success in providing strategic leadership and development in this space within a multi-channel organization.

  • Demonstrates a passion for the unique mission and values of DI&B

  • Strength in navigating and leading effectively within a dynamic growth environment to influence change and advance DI&B and employee engagement priorities

  • Ability to lead and influence others directly and indirectly, think proactively, and function independently.

  • Ability to develop complex and innovative solutions to business problems without precedent.

  • Experience of working with cross-functional global teams and building relationships at all levels of the organization. A change agent who is passionate about building an inclusive culture.
