(Senior) Associate Scientist, Structural Biology: Amgen, China

Amgen is seeking a scientist to join the Structural Biology group at our Asia R&D Center in Shanghai. In this role, you will join a motivated team of scientists contributing to Amgen’s diverse discovery and development portfolio of therapeutic modalities with a focus on determining structures of drug targets in complex with small molecule or large molecule therapeutic candidates, to influence all stages of our drug discovery efforts. In addition, you will involve making innovative contributions to understand the fundamental regulatory mechanisms of drug targets by structural biology. You will interface with research scientists across multiple Amgen sites, and work closely with teams in other functional areas and local CROs.

Core responsibilities of this position:

Conduct and optimize protein purification, particularly for membrane proteins, and evaluate the profiles including purity, stability, homogeneity etc.

Utilize appropriate techniques including x-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM to determine atomic macromolecule structures.

Analyze, interpret and report protein purification data and structural information.

Beyond the core responsibilities, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to explore the utilities of structural biology in therapeutic candidate discovery and development. Interactions with colleagues in our multiple therapeutic areas or in the external scientific community will be highly encouraged.

Basic Qualifications:

Ph.D. OR Master’s degree with 3 years of industry experience for Associate Scientist; Ph.D. and 3 years of working experience for Senior Associate Scientist

Ph.D. OR Master’s degree in a macromolecule structural, chemical, or biological field of study

Expertise in macromolecule structural biology; working experience with cryo-EM is a plus

Solid knowledge in structural biology

Hands-on experiences in protein purification, crystallization and/or cryo grids preparation, data collection for x-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM, data processing and structure determination

Fluent in reading, writing and speaking Chinese and English

Critical thinking and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with team members

Effective oral and written communication skills
