Amgen Sr. Medical Advisor, New Product Development Lead (NPDL): Oncology in Mississauga, Ontario

Position Accountability:

To represent the Archetype country (Canada) at the Global Product Team(s) (PT) by providing input and insights into the local medical environment to inform and develop the global product strategy

Key Responsibilities:

Provide in depth local medical/clinical insights on the current treatment paradigm(s) and current standard of care; how this is evolving; and what will be new standards at launch.

What perception or knowledge base of the current therapeutic area needs to evolve for the product to gain wide spread use:

  • The barriers and drivers to treatment

  • The patient and physician unmet needs

  • The guidelines impacting treatment and barriers and drivers

  • The individuals (opinion leaders, investigators, prescribers), institutions and societies impacting treatment and their impact on treatment decisions

  • Epidemiology of the disease including incidence, prevalence of varying disease states

  • Patient types and how they are treated through the local healthcare system(s)

  • Patient flow - diagnosis, treatment rates

  • Product device needs - HCPs, patients, institutions

  • What needs to change in the treatment paradigm for the product to be successful in market

  • Clinical development considerations (e.g. footprint)

External engagement: Engages with relevant individuals including thought leaders, institutions and societies to generate medical/clinical insight

Communication and collaboration

  • Clear, effective communication to the PT

  • Collaborate with other functional country archetype reps (Value & Access, Marketing) to understand the evidence required for local stakeholders (e.g., HTAs, regulators, patients, medical societies, etc.)

  • Update local affiliate and key stakeholders on product strategy and key issues to inform pre-launch plan

  • Collaborate with the Global Study Operations Development Feasibility Manager on disease landscaping and prospective study feasibility assessments

Planning: Development of local plan addressing how to gather the insights to inform Product Team strategy

20% travel (Domestic and International)

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate level education (PharmD, PhD, MD), or Scientific degree with proven experience in relevant therapeutic areas within industry

Preferred Qualifications

Deep understanding of pharmaceutical product development, product lifecycle and commercialization process with advanced understanding of other functions; including but not limited to Clinical Operations, Commercial, Regulatory, and Medical Affairs, Value Access and Policy

Ability to develop deep understanding of new therapeutic areas

Experience in Medical Affairs and/or Clinical Development

Strong customer orientation; science-based and marketing minded

Operational excellence: self-management skills, planning, prioritization, objective setting, meeting management, plan execution

Interpersonal skills: ability to engage with key stakeholders at a professional and clinical level

Bilingual: French / English
