Amgen Strategic Sourcing Manager MEA in Lisbon, Portugal

You will be responsible for effectively sourcing various indirect category projects and statements of work in the business, in accordance with established Procurement policies and guidelines. Working closely with and prioritizing activity with the Country Sourcing Manager and with business leads in the MEA Affiliates, implementing sourcing execution strategies and contracting needs. The Country Sourcing Manager will report to the Regional GSS Lead and will work out of the Amgen Capability Center located in Lisbon Portugal.

Accountabilities :

  • to the business process stakeholder for the relevant Middle East and Africa (MEA) Affiliates:

Ensure consistent compliance with Amgen’s sourcing policies, deliver business requirements at fair market value total cost and minimize risk exposure

  • to MEA FP&A:

Ensure effective management of sourcing strategy development, selection and contracting processes, supply base control and performance and the sourcing process

Support CFO as part of Amgen’s productivity system in coordination with FP&A and stakeholders

  • to the Regional GSS Lead:

Ensure an effective and efficient Sourcing and Supplier management process in accordance with established GSS policies and guidelines

Ensure early involvement & demand planning of sourcing projects

Ensure effective management of sourcing strategy development, selection and contracting processes, supply base control and performance and the sourcing process for projects.


  • As Sourcing Lead in Middle East Africa :

Supply base analysis: monitor, analyze and report regional actual spend, trends, savings, forecasts and Supplier base data;

Opportunity identification: identify improvement opportunities with respect to management of Purchase demand, Supply base and Total Cost and ensure Category Manager’s involvement in opportunities;

Define and document sourcing priorities, sourcing strategies and associated plans and agree with stakeholders, combining outcome of analysis and sourcing initiatives.

  • As Leader of Sourcing, with respect to selection & sourcing processes:

Requirements definition: identify and define specific stakeholder requirements;

RFx definition: define evaluation/selection criteria, utilize ACCP sourcing team to manage RFI and RFP processes on the basis of the Sourcing strategy

Supplier Selection: evaluate and validate selection of the best supplier and fair market value

Supplier evaluation & performance improvement: evaluate & establish target supplier performance.

Interaction with the BU´s and Directors – high exposure to the Staff members

  • As Member of the Strategic Sourcing Team:

Strategy development: participate in Global category strategy development

Participate in Regional Sourcing teams

Category management: coordinate spend category activities with Region and Affiliates

Benefits tracking: develop, maintain and report Key Performance Indicators such as productivity that clearly reflect the achievement of objectives in each business area

Drive the development and implementation of category strategies at which will deliver improvements in quality, savings and continuity of supply.

Be a facilitator/partner for internal clients with respect to procedures and GSS policy, assuring that they will follow them

Participates in Global/Regional Projects, being the focal point in the sub region.

Quarterly productivity reports ensuring that targets will be achieved. If there is any difficulty to achieve them, prepare action plans when there are risks to achieve targets

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree

  • OR Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of Sourcing experience

  • OR Associate’s degree and 6 years of Sourcing experience

  • OR High school diploma / GED and 8 years of Sourcing experience

  • Knowledge of sourcing, contract negotiations, and supplier management

  • Sourcing / procurement experience within and external to the Pharma Industry

  • Negotiation

  • Fluency in English, in oral and written communication.

  • Demonstrated success in partnering cross-functionally

  • Ability to conduct benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk and innovation considerations

Preferred Requirements

  • Business process related training

  • 3 years Business Process related experience in a Pharmaceutical or similar environment

  • Project Management experience

  • Fluency in Arabic and French, both in oral and written communication

  • Strong understanding in eProcurement solutions
