WHAT YOU WILL DO

In this vital role within the Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS) team, the Director & Head of ELMAC , will be responsible for management of the Sourcing organization which operates across Amgen’s Commercial operating countries in Europe, Latin America, Middle East & Africa and Canada. In this capacity, this leader will be driving the development and implementation of Category Strategies & Source to Contract solutions which will deliver improvements in quality, savings, and continuity of supply as well as be accountable to deliver portfolio productivity in support of the ELMAC Region P&L requirements. This leader will oversee the ELMAC Commercial Leadership Team and stakeholder organizations within Amgen to supervise supplier contracting, negotiations and performance. The Director of ELMAC Global Strategic Sourcing will also be responsible for performance management and the ongoing development of the country sourcing teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Global Head of Sourcing - Commercial / Corporate Services, the main responsibilities include:

  • Lead regional Business Partnering to deliver efficiency, quality and any enablement required to achieve the business goals through supplier sourcing and partnering

  • Be a trusted advisor to the ELMAC Executive Leadership teams and their global counterparts – ability to grow and maintain influence of Sourcing Agenda

  • Champion a three-year pipeline of savings and value plans in alignment with category and business strategies delivered against Finance’s annual budget plan

  • Commit to continuous improvement in sourcing processes, tools and operating model

  • Develop team capabilities and cultivate a culture of diversity and inclusion

  • Develop and lead strategy for regional spend priorities.

  • Influence and develop regional productivity & value initiatives for key business partners

  • Be a sourcing professional with strong financial competence, experienced with accountability to business partner with Finance executives

  • Serve as a thoughtful partner and actively challenge work to deploy the most comprehensive and creative solutions; remove barriers for team to ensure its ability to implement

  • GSS decision maker for category/functional sourcing strategy and supplier selection impacting the ELMAC region

  • Champion supplier relationship management for critical suppliers in ELMAC

  • Identify and drive solutions to meet operating inefficiencies by understanding business needs and supply markets

  • Access supplier capability and innovation for the business

  • Identify and mitigate supply risk

  • Managerial courage to provide performance feedback

  • Develop goals and prioritize team's work among multiple initiatives

  • Frame & drive cross-functional sourcing agenda across regional customers & team

  • Drive alignment between global category strategy with the needs and requirements of ELMAC region

  • Bring Industry/business function-specific knowledge and experience

  • Customize sourcing strategy to drive value in specific functional environment, including legal & regulatory context

  • Initiate / build industry peer relationships

  • Provide support, mentorship and guidance to shape the sourcing strategies of the team

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Doctorate degree and 4 years of directly related experience

OR

Master’s degree and 8 years of directly related years

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of directly related experience

AND

7 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Proficiency in English, both in written and verbal communication

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diverse Global Sourcing / Procurement experience within and/or external to the Pharma industry

  • Experience in managing a broad range of Indirect service categories endemic to Commercial and Corporate entities

  • Broad knowledge of the market forces shaping a customer’s business context, particularly across international geographies (e.g. supplier base, legal and regulatory environment, sources of competitive advantage)

  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and using full set of sourcing levers to drive value for customers

  • Ability to conduct benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk and innovation considerations

  • Ability to provide thought leadership and actively shape strategy within and external to GSS

TEAM MANAGEMENT & CHANGE MANAGEMENT

  • Independent self-starter and able to empower others to accomplish high-reaching targets & ambiguous tasks

  • Ability to lead teams in a matrix organization, across geographic and functional reporting lines

  • Ability to guide, coach, and mentor direct reports

  • Demonstrated track record of identifying root causes to issues and problem-solving skills

  • Change management experience with large and complex organizational transformations

  • Demonstrated success in establishing & partnering cross-functional teams

  • Ability to build, own and strengthen relationships with key customers and to champion change

  • Compelling and persuasive communicator (oral and written) with excellent interpersonal skills

ANALYTICAL & TECHNICAL

  • Knowledge of Category Strategy Development, Sourcing, contract negotiations, and supplier relationship management.

  • Strong understanding of best practices in Global Sourcing and Procurement

  • Ability to analyze, summarize, and present insights based on the needs of the audience

  • Ability to develop business cases and champion opportunities with quantifiable financial benefits
