This is an outstanding opportunity to seek a variety of challenges and responsibilities in support to our manufacturing facility at Amgen Manufacturing Limited in Juncos, Puerto Rico.
The role of the Process Development Associate Scientist - Data is to apply his/her expertise in machine learning to enhance the way data are used to make critical decisions at Amgen. The Associate Data Scientist will also participate in a variety of other efforts to identify automation opportunities across the business and apply cutting-edge techniques to deliver value-adding and differentiating solutions for Amgen Process Development. The position requires to have good documentation skills to write reports that can be used in regulatory audits.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Developing, programming, enhancing, automating, deploying, and managing models within the Process Development Drug Product and across Amgen Operations
Advancing deep learning, machine learning, and artificial intelligence applications across Amgen Operations
Creating striking visualization to facilitate data interpretation and decision-making
Staying abreast of industry trends, especially in the realms of artificial intelligence and process automation, and exploring novel tools and techniques to improve data utilization
Support the Deep Learning deployment throughout existing vision systems, and the development of new vision systems using this novel technology
Designing studies, supporting study execution, analyzing data, and communicating results in support of new manufacturing and analytical technology development, with an emphasis on critically assessing the benefits and drawbacks of candidate technologies
Documenting work in accordance with good documentation practices
Delivering technical presentations and training to a variety of stakeholders, including executive leadership as well as manufacturing operators and laboratory analysts
Supporting the development of User Requirements Specifications of equipment to ensure data availability
Conduct end-to end analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specifications, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables, and presentations
Interact cross-functionally with a wide variety of people and teams
Partner to or develop and implement analysis, forecasting, and optimization methods to improve the quality of Amgen’s processes
Advises or assists others in experimental design and/or interpretation/diagnosis of data and implementing innovative process
Use statistics, data analysis, machine learning and their related methods in order to understand and analyze data
Work with data architects to build data solution and/or to be used in company applications/systems
Participate in technical forums for sharing of best practices and application of data
Incorporate skills from computer science, mathematics, statistics, data visualization and business in the analysis
Support the commissioning and qualification of new and existing assets
Support the characterization of new or existing assets, identifying boundary limits, critical parameters, developing the testing strategy and statistical sampling plans
Provide support in investigations and the proposal and implementation of corrective actions related to investigations
Available to support non-standard shift operations in a 7/24 format including extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
Meet specific project team goals and timelines.
Develop project plans and strategies for implementation working with project managers and SMEs.
Work in teams with multiple fields, including manufacturing, process engineering, maintenance, quality assurance, and validation to implement projects.
Communicates and/or presents scientific/ technical information within area of expertise across projects within a function/department, and occasionally to the external scientific community (i.e. regulatory agencies, review boards, conferences)
May supervise, coordinate and review work of a small team on a project basis.
May develop supervisory and mentoring skills.
Contributes to and may author scientific/technical documents (i.e. posters, presentations, publications, regulatory marketing applications, patent applications, technical reports, investigation reports)
May represent the department on project teams under supervision of a senior scientific staff member.
May initiate productive collaborations within and outside of the department or company.
Basic education & experience
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience
Experience building models and developing algorithms for deep learning, machine learning, and/or artificial intelligence
Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g. Python, C#) as well as an aptitude for rapidly learning new programming languages
A passion for proactively identifying opportunities via creative data analyses and modeling
Intellectual curiosity with a drive to learn new concepts, algorithms, and technologies rapidly as needs arise
The ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
The ability to learn and act upon dynamic information at a rapid pace in a cross-functional team environment
An aptitude for technical problem solving, critical thinking, and the delivery of value-adding solutions in a team environment
Excellent communication skills: oral and written. Interacts effectively with variety of communication and working styles.
Fully bilingual in Spanish and English
