Maintenance Manager (Shift)
Job Summary:
The Shift Maintenance Manager manages the maintenance technicians on shift and is responsible for appropriate allocation of technicians to meet shift targets. The manager's goal is to support the team to minimise equipment downtime, provide effective support to equipment breakdown and manage the execution of the maintenance plan.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Aligns the team with the Maintenance vision, mission, strategies and goals
Maintains a high level of safety compliance during work execution and identifies areas for improvement. Conducts safety walks and leads investigations into incidents
Ensures adherence to GMP & SOP requirements for tasks assigned
Supports team to maintain training completion at expected levels. Maintains team skills matrix and identifies skills training needs annually.
Effectively assigns work to technicians. Sets shift daily, weekly and monthly targets. Supports team in meeting targets.
Implements Preventative Maintenance plan & weekly production activities per plan
Highlights capacity constraints at planning meetings
Ensures timely closing of work orders in Maximo, ensures documentation is timely and accurate
Notifies planner/scheduler of planned and forecast attendance hours
Minimizes maintenance downtime, schedules break in and identifies and eliminates work flow interrupters. Ensures there is an effective response to Emergencies & Critical Equipment Breakdown
Utilizes maintenance troubleshooting skills and tools
Ensures effective shift handover communication and documentation of complete activities and issue investigation
Escalates and communicates effectively to Engineering & Production FLM’s
Ensures work is completed to standard and identifies improvements to these standards
Identifies waste through effective oversight and review of work completed
Supports project implementation activities.
Primary Knowledge, Skills, Competencies and Relevant Experience:
An Engineering Qualification or Engineering Degree plus management qualification / experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment with at least 2-3 years' supervisory experience
Experience in GMP or other regulated environment and knowledge of required safety standards
Experience in Lean Transformation and/or Change Management Programs
Knowledge:
Working knowledge of parenteral in pharmaceutical/biotech industries or aseptic processing, solid dosage manufacturing and packaging
Fundamental knowledge of regulation requirements (GMP & EH&S)
Knowledge of audit handling process
Knowledge of Quality Systems (e.g. Non Conformance, Change Control, CAPA)
Knowledge in equipment troubleshooting and maintenance systems
Practical knowledge in scheduling to effectively distribute daily duties
Knowledge of computer systems applicable to managerial responsibilities (e.g. Maximo SAP, LMS)
Practical knowledge in continuous improvement tools and methodologies
