Amgen Automation Manager (Area Owner) in Dublin, Ireland

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day management and leadership including mentoring, staff development and work prioritisation for a team of System Owners within Functional Area

  • Accountability for the ownership and administration of all automation aspects of manufacturing systems in a GMP regulated manufacturing setting

  • Support Drug Product manufacturing in areas such as Formulation, Vial/Syringe Filling, Lyophilisation, Packaging, Inspection and Component Preparation

  • Build consensus between the individual requirements of Operations, Corporate Engineering and Operations Digital Technology and Innovation on the use of Automation systems

  • Lead and support technology-led process improvements and the development of execution plans

  • Drive continuous reliability focused improvements through automation initiatives

  • Functional Area Owner for all relevant Quality Records

  • Own area metrics for Automation function and ensure they are aligned to business goals

  • Review performance data and recommend improvements for systems

  • As part of new product introductions or new technology introductions ensure the latest Amgen and Industry standards are being delivered

  • Continually re-prioritise the Automation System team’s workload in line with manufacturing priorities and with the aim of schedule attainment

  • Act as Technical Point of escalation for system owners for complex problems, lifecycle management and operational excellence initiatives

  • Identify Automation Systems and components that need to be part of Global Lifecycle Asset Management program

  • Assist sites in troubleshooting, and remediation to prevent future occurrence throughout the network

  • Drive year-on-year productivity improvements for budgetary items within their control

  • Ensure appropriate and timely escalation of issues and risks to Head of Automation

  • Active member of the Automation management team, contributing to and supporting the overall Facilities & Engineering strategy and functional deliverables

  • Be part of a learning and development programme which will include goal setting, annual performance reviews and individual development plans

  • Be a champion for safe working practices and safety initiatives within their functional area

  • Support Amgen’s environmental sustainability

Preferred Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering or Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotech Engineering or related life science engineering with 7+ years’ experience in operations/manufacturing environment

  • Manufacturing automation experience in biopharmaceutical Formulation/Filling/Packaging or Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) facilities

  • Excellent control systems automation background focused specifically on design, installation, programming, validation and lifecycle maintenance of automated equipment

  • Solid leadership, technical writing, and communication/presentation skills

  • Experience directing the activity of others in matrix, internal or external reporting relationships

  • Experience in change control, non-conformance, corrective and preventative actions, and validation practices

  • Experience in developing automation strategies for new product introduction and new technology deployment

  • Ability to translate strategic opportunities and emerging technology solutions into tangible pragmatic executable plans

  • Ability to influence the development of business area strategy and IT strategy where appropriate

  • Independent, self-motivated, organised, able to multi-task in manufacturing environments and skilled in communication and collaboration

  • Team player, prepared to work in and embrace a team-based culture that relies on collaboration for effective decision-making

Travel at various times may be required to support execution of projects
