Amgen Undergrad Intern – OPS (Pivotal Drug Substance Technologies) in Cambridge, Massachusetts
Amgen’s 10 – 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient’s lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.
Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.
The Pivotal Drug Substance Technologies organization at Amgen develops, characterizes and supports the commercialization of the drug substance manufacturing processes for all late-stage programs across the Amgen portfolio. Staff members of this team are responsible for support of the development, characterization, scale-up and support of upstream and downstream processes to enable commercial advancement of programs from Ph II/III clinical trials to marketing application. This internship is in an integrated group in which cell culture and purification scientists work together to advance Amgen’s rich, exciting and dynamic pipeline. The intern will gain practical experience in both cell culture and purification process development. Tasks will vary and may include, but are not limited to:
Design and execute cell culture and/or purification scale-down models to support technology and process development
Collaboration with project team staff to execute bench-scale bioreactor and/or chromatography experiments
Development of small scale assays to enhance process understanding
Statistical analysis and presentation of experimental data
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
18 years or older
Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
Enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s or Combined Bachelor's/Master's degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Degree concentration(s) in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Life Sciences, or other relevant sciences
Academic or industrial research experience in a relevant field; any cell culture or protein sciences experience a plus
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Interpersonal skills to facilitate teamwork and collaboration
Strong attention to detail
Some experience with statistical analysis
