Amgen Undergrad Co-op – OPS (Drug Product Technologies) in Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Pivotal Drug Product Group at Amgen are instrumental in rapid development of some of the very fast paced Amgen Pipeline products from clinical to commercial. The group is seeking a highly talented undergraduate for a full-time Co-op position for 6 months from July through December 2019.
Under guidance of expert scientists
The Co-op will participate in technology development initiatives and support Amgen’s pipeline product development activities from FIH to commercial of large molecule drug products including monoclonal antibodies, and bi specific antibodies.
The Co-op will have an opportunity to understand strategies implemented to enable end-to end Drug Product development in the fast-paced environment including lyo process development, drug product stability studies, fill finish process development, drug product process characterization and manufacturing.
The Co-op will also learn a suite of analytical techniques with broad applications in bio pharmaceutical industry including, UV spectroscopy, chromatography (size exclusion, cation exchange), reduce capillary electrophoresis, differential scanning calorimetry, moisture sorption, dynamic scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis and particle visualization. During the program, the Co-op will develop an understanding how these analyses are used to support formulation and process development for drug products.
The Co-op will also have an opportunity to learn integration of advance information technology and machine learning to drug product process development.
The Co-op will be expected to spend most of their time in the lab running experiments, collecting and analyzing data. The Co-op will have an option to present their data in various Amgen forum in form of posters or podium presentations.
Additionally, the Amgen Cambridge site houses teams representing many different functions from Discovery Research and Process Development including drug substance, analytical sciences, information technology, and tech transfer. This diverse and scientifically vibrant site offers great exposure to the entirety of the pharmaceutical development life cycle and the variety of roles available within the industry post-graduation.
Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
18 years or older
Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
Enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Concentration(s) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or related field with an interest in analytical measurements, instrumentation, and data processing
Ability to be proactive and independently understand, follow, and implement instructions
Ablility to manage multiple tasks at once and to work effectively with teams using strong interpersonal skills
Excellent verbal and written communication expertise
Scientific or technical writing experience
