Amgen Grad Intern - R&D (PKDM/Drug Transporters)) in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Amgen's 10 - 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient's lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.

Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

The intern will support the drug transporter team, for a short term research project which involves establishing techniques and understanding the drug transporters as it relates to absorption, distribution, and clearance of therapeutic agents. The intern will work closely with lab based scientists to plan, conduct, analyze, interpret, and communicate study results.

This internship will focus on identifying knowledge gaps and establishing in vitro to in vivo correlation of transporter mediated drug clearance. Specifically, the successful intern will employ a variety of in vitro models to investigate cellular transport to determine the kinetics and intracellular free drug concentration and modeling the in vitro data to examine if preclinical/clinical pharmacokinetic parameters can be predicted from such data.

Amgen Cambridge's Dept. of Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism (PKDM) seeks a qualified intern with the following job responsibilities:

Job responsibilities include:

  • Conduct in vitro uptake and binding assays in hepatocytes and transporter overexpressed recombinant cells to determine in vitro kinetic parameters for transporter substrates

  • Model the in vitro data to predict in vivo pharmacokinetics and subsequently compare the predictions to the observed findings

  • Develop methodology to improve in vitro to in vivo prediction for transporter mediated drug clearance

  • Identify the knowledge gaps and propose solutions to overcome such challenges
