Executive Director, Quality Data Sciences
The Executive Director, Quality Data Sciences is responsible for three major activities:
Creating and overseeing the Data and Knowledge Management Strategy for the Quality function that delivers and maintains a predict and prevent capability for Operations. The Data Strategy will involve data governance across all Amgen Quality processes, integration of the Information Systems technology road map and prioritization and delivery of Analytics Solutions that unlock and leverage data in Amgen Quality Management Systems.
Leading the Quality Data Science Analytics Team that consists of data scientists, Quality Engineers and Statistical Engineers that provide the subject matter expertise to innovate, integrate and execute the strategy. Additionally, the Data Science Analytics Team will drive the use of best statistical practices to ensure all pipeline milestones are met and that all licensed products reach every patient, every time.
Applying appropriate Operational Excellence methods to continuously improve Quality processes and drive effective root cause analyses.
As a key member of the Quality Sciences & Technology (QS&T) leadership team, this position must be a relentless champion of insights-driven strategy, objective, evidence-based decision making and continuous innovation across our pipeline and commercialized products. This position will partner closely with the Quality Leadership Team to identify key strategic questions and will lead their team to drive maximum business impact. He or she will help Quality and Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability teams to leverage the highest-caliber current and emerging data analytics to deliver and maintain a patient-focused predict and prevent capability.
This position reports to the VP of Quality Sciences & Technology. This position will:
Lead, develop, execute and maintain vision and strategies that leverage data to drive significant value for Amgen and patients
Partners with Quality and Operations Leadership Teams to understand and influence strategic imperatives related to Quality Data Strategy, act as a thought partner and encourage evidence-based decision making
Function as the primary point of contact for senior Quality leaders to engage with the Information Systems Technology Road map and internal Quality Analytics needs.
Lead teams of operations Subject Matter Experts and data analysts to deliver actionable insights for Amgen’s Quality Processes that will improve our patients’ experiences
Prioritize data governance and analytics needs, align team members, and allocate resources to reflect business imperatives; balance needs across licensed and pipeline products while driving productivity and efficiency
Serve as the Thought leader ensuring broad adoption of best practices and incorporating new methods and tools as appropriate
Liaise with leaders in Operations Data Strategy, Process Development and Digital Health to encourage best practice sharing for analytics across Amgen’s entire portfolio
Help build predict and prevent analytics as a differentiated capability, including developing team members and creating clear career paths
Be a trusted partner and provide guidance and recommendations on how data can be leveraged to answer questions and solve problems
Doctorate degree and 6 years of experience in Quality, consulting and/or analytics to drive business strategy OR
Master’s degree and 10 years of experience in Quality, consulting and/or analytics to drive business strategy OR
Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of experience in Quality, consulting and/or analytics to drive business strategy AND
6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Leadership experience in building and developing high performing teams, delivering results, and shaping the future
Advanced degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following areas: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Statistics, or Pharmaceutical Sciences
Experience managing multiple senior stakeholders, prioritizing across a multitude of responsibilities and allocating resources to drive maximum impact
Business acumen that lends itself to understanding the context and dynamics of applying analytical solutions to improve decision-making
Recruited, developed, mentored and motivated managers and subject matter experts, as well as, built teams of Data Analysts, Data Scientists and Data Designers that deliver results and achieve objectives to support business needs
Managed projects involving multiple functions with shared account abilities
Built collaborative relationships with colleagues, understands the needs of various functions, values their input and communicates effectively
Ability to translate complex data insights into actionable business recommendations
Views issues from multiple perspectives, is willing to compromise to achieve objectives, and is adept at resolving conflicts
Interacts with senior executives and remains professional and respectful in all situations
Partners with business leaders to deliver high-quality predictions that guide strategic decision-making
Oral, written and presentation skills to explain complex concepts and controversial findings clearly to a variety of audiences, including senior management
Knowledge of analytics approaches in pharmaceutical operations including descriptive and predictive analytics
Identify how patient experiences influence internal operational processes
Align teams to best practices and champion new innovative methodologies
