Amgen Director, Process Development: Materials Science in Cambridge, Massachusetts
The Material Sciences team within Attribute Sciences at Amgen provides scientific and technical leadership support to Amgen's commercial, clinical and development portfolio.
The Director of Materials Science will manage and provide strategic leadership for a team of material scientists who are accountable for providing technical support for the complex materials used in the production of our diverse portfolio of products. This role will also involve the establishment of a systematic process to integrate material attribute understanding into the development and lifecycle management of materials.
This role will involve close collaboration across the broader Process Development organization, internal supply groups, Amgen Quality and our vendors to ensure optimal selection and design of new materials and to ensure an uninterrupted supply of quality materials to support Amgen manufacturing. This role may include site technical visits and will provide the candidate the opportunity to drive strategic improvement projects within Amgen and with our vendors. This position will also lead troubleshooting activities and investigations associated with materials and will also support our interactions with regulatory agencies through the support of submissions, questions and during inspections.
Working in a matrixed global team environment the Director will develop and implement state-of-the-art materials, support process development teams to implement materials based on a fundamental understanding of material attributes to advance the next generation of products and processes at Amgen.
Doctorate degree and 4 years of Scientific experience
Master's degree and 8 years of Scientific experience
Bachelor's degree and 10 years of Scientific experience
4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading matrix teams, projects or programs
Ph.D. or equivalent in Material Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Biotechnology
10+ years of relevant experience in the design and technical support of materials for the pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated industry
Experience with statistical data analysis such as design of experiments, regression, and multivariate statistics
Knowledge or direct experience with state-of-the art advanced materials, sensing, data acquisition
A track record of demonstrated external scientific track record which may include peer reviewed publications, scientific conference participation or participation in industry working groups or panels
Advanced scientific writing, problem solving skills and abilities with technology commercialization
Previous experience working in a regulated environment and previous experience with interacting with regulatory agencies
